Hi all,

A few years back, someone on this forum converted his Axis to a Telecaster. It was either that, or a Warmoth project. basically, the "Axis" was natural and had a Tele bridge and bridge pickup. Anyone remember this thread and who it was?

Don't remember that one. But you could find an old hardtail SSS Sport and throw some good tele p'ups in there. (Yeah, I know, different bridge. But I'd leave the MM bridge on there and change the pickups.)

Tele's are usually Alder, not sure what a basswood Axis with Tele pups would sound like. The M90 has an ash body, correct. Why not just get an Al?

I think I like Lee's tone a bit more than those Teles.

Are you looking for a new Tele? You are always surprising. What will be next?:D:D:D

I'm always looking for either cool Teles or cool ideas for them. I had an OLP MM1 Axis copy that I took the bridge off of. I put a block of wood in the trem cavity so I could have something to screw the Tele bridge into. I installed a cheap Tele bridge and a Tele bridge pickup. I didn't mainly as a proof-of-concept idea. For the most part, it worked and sounded cool. The Axis is such a comfortable guitar to play. The OLP really doesn't compare but I got an idea.

Someone on this forum either had an Axis that they converted and added a Tele bridge assembly to or did a Warmoth project using a VW body...

It looked a little like this (please pardon the bad headstock edit):

it wouldn't work...
the humbucker cavity is too big for a telecaster brige, the same with s-s-s configuration.
it would be like a tele bridge with two big holes on the sides of it...
i saw a picture somewhere that illustrated the problem...

Man if I were you, I'd just grab a front-routed sport, get a different pickguard, and wire in some twangy pups. It'd be sad to see an Axis get all carved up...

I remember that Axis/Tele!

It was in natural finish, and the owner is a "she"...

Too bad I didn't save any pictures...

Nope... I read about that thread a long time ago...

It wasn't mine, but I sure do remember reading about it, albeit vaguely!

Can't find anything through the search function, would love to see it again though!

Oh, okay... I have searched most of the day for the thread that had that guitar in it. I can't find it anywhere.

I think the guitar you are thinking of is a guitar in BP's collection there at the plant. It hangs on the wall with a bunch of prototypes like the original Luke prototype, etc.
