I know I will probably get plenty of people telling me don't do it and I'm not even sure that I will. I am just in the info gathering phase at this point. I have an All Rosewood SLO Special Stingray HS and I love everything about it except for the weight. When I ordered it, I pleaded for my dealer to ask for a lighter one. I was told it's just luck of the draw and if I wanted my Stingray to be lighter, I should order a single H pickup version instead. Of course, I didn't listen and ended up with a bass that isn't unmanageable but not what I gig unless I only play a 30-45 minute set. I'm now wondering what if....

Does anyone know how much the S pickup with phantom coil weighs? It may not be enough weight saved to even justify messing with things, but I wonder about taking it out and just covering it up with a new single H pickguard.

Is it possible to switch out the 5-way toggle and replace it with a 3-way, so basically the controls would be like a Sterling. I realize they are different pickups. What other mods would be needed to make it happen?

I would not do any modifications to this bass that are permanent and will not consider unless it's something I can potentially switch back to original configuration down the line.

A single H can weigh more than a full loaded HH with piezo. Its the slice of ash that matters.
I think you can max. save 200gr (7oz) by taken the singlecoils out.

Thanks... Good to know on the pickup weight.

I realize that the slice of ash is the biggest factor. I have another Stingray that is 1.7 lb (27 oz) lighter than this one. The all rosewood neck also brings an extra 9 oz. compared to my other neck.
