Recently Levy's introduced a 4 1/2" wide padded strap. Being a big fan of Levy's stuff, I thought I'd give it a try even though my existing strap shows no signs of wearing out and would probably outlive me. Played a four-hour gig last night and can report that it's GREAT.
I'm a believer in the idea of spreading the weight as much as possible, which means putting as much strap in contact with your shoulder and back as you can. This thing is about as wide as you can get without it coming off the edge of your shoulder anyway.
MF has 'em.
The only caveat is that (at least on me) it's a good idea to wear a shirt with a collar, otherwise the edge of the strap will touch your neck and get all grungy.
