Hey, if anyone is interested in an SR4 with the same copperhead finish and copper pickguard as the SR5 that nismaniac has, I saw one at the GC in Dallas yesterday. Wow, that combo looks even better in person that it does in the pictures. If I wanted another SR4, I would have jumped on that one. It certainly is unique.

I'm tempted to go get the twin. :)

It's VERY tempting, but I just rec'd my new SR4 last Thursday. Probably wouldn't be a good idea to push my luck... ;)

I went by that very GC today (on LBJ) and that IS one beautiful bass. They have a couple of nice Bongos, too, and guess what?

Lord Bongo has finally played some SUBs!

Took me long enough, I know, I know.

I played that SUB 5 that's there last Sunday (can't remeber if it was teal or charcoal). What did you think? I thought they sounded pretty good, but for a little bit more I can find a good used SR5. I actually stopped by to try out the Desert Gold HH Bongo, but it wouldn't light up for some reason. Changed out the batteries and everything, but couldn't get anything out of it. I played the HH w/piezo too.

I think it was charcoal. Black, for all intents and purposes.

I might consider a SUB 5 if I could find one used for the right price. I thought that out of all of them, the 5er was the best of the lot. Of course, the others needed some tweaking on the setups.

Poor basses, how they must suffer.

Makes you wonder what happened to the DG Bongo fiver. Beautiful bass!

I didn't even pick up the 4 banger SUB. I did however try out the lined fretless Sterling. It was a used HB. I must say that the Stingray fits me much better.

As for the DG Bongo, that's just typical GC that it didn't work. It's a mystery to me how so much equipment can get destroyed in that store. It sure makes it hard to try things out.

This is what derek said about the Copperhead Bronze finish when I asked him:

"The pickguard combination with Copperhead Bronze Finish was shown at the 2004 winter Namm show. We had a few prototypes with the copper finish and the pickguard you have but decided not to offer the combination. Lucky You. We may have sold those few "Namm" basses to Guitar Center as a special purchase. I have a SR4 sitting in my office right next to me in that same combination as yours.

Thanks

Derek"

So what is the general concensus on the Sub series? Is the sterling sub intended to be the top of the line model? Hopefully I will be able to test one out soon along with a Bongo of course. I am really dying to play a bongo.

Come on down to Dallas some weekend. There are 3 Guitar Centers in the area and I know that 2 of them have Bongos in stock. I haven't checked out the one in Arlington yet, but I'll bet they have some too.

I think I might just have to do that. A road trip sounds good. I might have to leave my money and credit cards with someone else for my own safety.
