Well, we here are a biased lot, but I've owned several Fend@rs and found only one keeper. But all 6 of my EBMM's are keepers.

look at it this way.. you have played both, the sounds can be changed with pickups and strings and set up, etc...but comfort and playability is what comes when you are holding the bass, so which ever one feels most comfy in your hands keep, if the sound is a lil out of touch you can always do things to mod it up..good luck!

Wow - my bass must've been sitting in GC for a while - bought it a few weeks ago and it was made in October '04. Anyway - another option I just thought of is I could return the Jazz, take the difference between the two (the Jazz was a bit more) and put it toward a MIM Jazz instead (and still keep the 'Ray)

They are a bit better than the MIM ones but if ya know what to look for in one you can get a bass as good as any USA model.BOOST said:
What I don't get is how they get away with selling a P Bass Or J Bass that just LOOKS like the artists model for 2000.00 or more. They are in the business of keeping aftermarket suppliers in business. Build it right from the beginning and things such as my preference of series over parallel are small in comparison to spending 1200.00 or more $$$ THEN buyin new PUP's and a preamp.
I dig the hell outta my Ray but it is taking some getting used to tonally but you won't hear me gripe about the quality of the instrument and what I paid for it.
So yeah man Keep the Ray and if ya decide to pick up a MIM J bass with the leftover cash look for one that plays well and has some room to lower the bridge saddles if needed.
The bad ones will have the saddles all the way down against the bridge plate and still have high action. Look for dead spots around the 5th to 9th fret on the g string but usually on the 5th or 6th. Have the store take a couple o' mins to set it up as they will usually have too much relief in the neck... this is true for USA models too.
My Ray was perfectly set up when I got it as any quality instrument should be.
I'm not as die hard Musicman as most of the guys here but that is subject to change once I get mine back from having it rewired. But I say again that's just the tone I prefer.

Have you noticed that no one has said anything about trying out Ernie Ball basses before you buy one? You hear that all the time about F@nd*rs. I've only bought one EB bass that I actually played before I bought it and I've never been disappointed with one of their products. Send the 'Ray and the jazz back and get a Sterling and a Bongo to try out. You will end up keeping one or the other.

I got one Fender Am. deluxe fretless, couple of months ago, for pretty much the
same price as I would've got a Stingray... (stupid me!)
Honestly, I don't really like the Fender. It's not bad, mind you, but compared to
the feel and quality of a MM, it's a different league. The bridge is kinda cheap,
and the finish is already scratched, just from wiping the bass (with my EBMM
polishing cloth, LOL) while my Stingray is still looking like a brand new baby,
after more than a year. Just my 2 cents.
