WHOA. What happened to that guitar? Looks like someone cranked so hard on the neck bolt that it cracked not just the plate, but the finish? And the other cracks? Dang that thing looks worse than Steve Morse's #1, which survived being played out in the rain numerous times.

As for neck plates, yes, of course they can crack. most have a beveled edge for the screw head to go in, which makes the material a bit thinner in that area, so if you really crank down o it, you can start a crack.

I had the exact same issue on my Silhouette Special. I probably over-tightened it at some point. I contacted EBMM and they were able to make and ship me a new one within a decent time frame.

looks like somebody tightened all the screws and the pot like hell and cracked the paint.....never had that on a factory new one - and sold a lot

Hi. When the paint dried, stretched. Not cranked hard on the neck bolt, never. :-(

Hi Guys. Thanks at all.
This is my guitar from 2003. I buyed it new. No one never touched the guitar in many years... I clean it and change strings myself. I never touch the screws, i never needed it.
Time pass and the years go quickly. The paint dried and stretched.
I wrote to EEMM i'm waiting for a answer. :-)

Hi Marcobenassi, I'm sorry to see that you're having issues with the paint on your guitar. It looks like the screws were over tightened and the guitar's finish cracked over time. Unfortunately, we do not offer refinishing services through the factory. Our recommendation is the find a local luthier who specializes in refinishing services.

That type of cracking doesn't usually happen from just expanding and contracting over time. Especially with a poly finish. If it wasn't dropped then I agree it had to originate from the screws.

What type of environment has it been kept in? The paints that EBMM uses are automotive quality, and should be able to withstand just about any normal change in temperature or humidity.

Hi.
what kind of paint should i use to refinishing the body ?
Thanks.

Hi Daniel.
Can i use this paint,
Jet Black - Medium Flake .008 Micron Size? Is this the right size?
Thanks.
P.s.
I’m from Italy.

HI Marcobenassi,
Unfortunately, I don't have access to that information. Our paint mixes are proprietary and I'm not able to give out any info other than where we get our paint.

Hi Marco! How’s everything goin? Did you get the guitar refinished?

Did some of the cracked plates owners noticed excessive cracking in the finish below the plate? Im just wondering if someone got to overtight the screws, what would be the weakest layer of the “sandwich”, the one which would break the first… wood? Finish? Plate? Screw?

Agree that with a six screw plate, should never be needed to tighten that much… another reason why experience worth so much!
