Current 3eq Ray v older 2eq

I used to play a blue Ray, a 3eq with piezo made in 2000. I sold it quite soon, as I did not like the heavy weight, the unfinished neck that gets dirtier and dirtier and found the eq somehow of very limited effect, with a duller midrangy sound not snappy enough, more for rock than for funk.

Now I play the red one in the pics, a 2eq made in 1989. First of all the varnished bird's eye neck is superb, and the eq is perfect for my taste, warm but twangy at the same time, if sounds like if the mids had been eqed out - or reduced - with a slap switch, heaven for my years, and found the eq more effective and flexible. The bass is also quite lighter.

I wonder whether any of you shares the same impressions.

I've got a trans red 89 Ray and it may be my favorite bass of all time. It's a 3 Q though and I play it with the bass maxed and the mid and treble rolled back from the mid point sometimes almost completely off. I'd love to hear a 2 Q . I think the neck on my 89 is just killer and your pic looks just like it. Great pics

The basses I've compared side by side, 2eq vs 3eq, were pretty similar to be honest, although I found the 3eq more versatile.

I''m a fan of the 3 band EQ as well, though the bottom line is that I generally have everything flat except for the occasional slight bass boost. I've been playing a maple necked Sterling for years and don't have a problem with a dirty fingerboard. I do wash my hands before playing though. I really like the trans red.
