Ok...Im a massive EB fan...

I tried a 5 string Stingray, and I loved it.

I already have two Stingray 4's though!

Should I go for a Stingray 5, or something different?

I'd like a really easy neck to play...and I think H + S pickups. If I have H+H ill probably struggle to slap. Which current EB has the easiest 5 string neck?

Im thinking some type on sunburst....hopefully :p

Any ideas?

Just remember the 4 String and 5 String Stingrays are two completely different basses. I say go with a Bongo 5.

BONGO 5 !!!!!! One of the best on the planet. A warning is needed though- this time last year I only had one, they will multiply like rabbits if you leave them alone in the dark :D.

There are no "bests" only "favorites"... but if that seafoam green Bongo 5 ever comes around, I will have a best and a favorite!

This year: Try a 25th!

+1

I played one last week at my local Guitar Center (5HH model). Certainly wish I had the money to get it, but I've got something else coming it's way in the future that I've already put money down on. But I'll be damned if the 25th wasn't one of the best basses I have played in years! Tone and options for years!

to make things even worse:

the 20th anniversary sr5 is the best of many worlds!
sr4 body style, mahogany tone block, a flame/quilt top that is awesome. it has a b string that kills and you can get it in a dual humbucker version which is absolutely perfect if you need lots of different sounds! :)

EBMM did such a good job of making each 5 string model distinct from the next one that the question cannot be answered. However, "The Best 5 String For You" maybe workable.

5 string with the classic EB vibe? SR5 H, HS, HH

Slightly less bark but more booty? Sterling 5 H, HS, HH

Incredibly wide spectrum of tones while still close to the EB vibe? Bongo 5 HS or HH

Infinite tonal possibilities and cutting edge techonology? 25th 5 HSS or HH

I own the BEST fiver ever made! :)

I personally loved my Sterling 5, and only sold her out of necessity. Best best is to try as many before you buy, and find what is BEST to you.

+1 - this is a very balanced reply

but my bog standard 5H natural is seriously a kick ass 5 string - I recently put a set of a certain make of strings on it of a signature artist - none of whom I will name here but the bass licks ass more than ever - talk about a slap machine this is something else - and the low B is as focussed and thunderous as ever.

Mr Du Baldo's single H 5 may be the best (or at least one of ten of the best EBMM 5 ers - haven't seen one of these mentioned for ages)! But there aren't any for sale are there??
