What is this thing with "custom" made basses from ernie ball. Loads of people are saying how their bass or guitar was "custom" made for them from musicman. then thay say what their bass is like " stingray maple 2EQ natural , black pickguard" . Nothing custom about that. Thats just another bass out the factory. Custom would be " stingray 4 band semi parametric mid EQ Red mirror pickguard green sparkle string through." Or some **** like that. I also ordered my bass with all the options I wanted because none of the one I wanted were in stock, but it didn't say "made custom for Ed"

I don't quite understand this trend.

Cheers

Masamax What's your bass like? Mine's a Transparent Red 3EQ Rosewood stingray. I had to order it with the options I wanted on it but it wasn't custom made for me. They just waited for the next one to come out of the factory and ship it to me. If it was custom made then sometime along the production line my bass would have been marked as "Ed's custom". But it wasn't its was just another normal production bass.
I've seen some guy with a custom finished stingray that's real custom it was blue dawn kinda with white faded writing in the finish the writing looked a bit like lightning it was quite cool he enodorses musicman basses. If someone has a custom finish or other please put up a photo or just tell us what you had done.

Does it really matter, BassMan?
I ordered my StingRay on May 6th, and I'm still waiting for it.
As I said, to me it's not ordinary that my bass is built when I ordered it. In fact, I've been mailing with Ernie Ball about the bass, and they know that this bass is for me - the person I mailed with does. To hell with the fact that it doesn't say "custom for JVA". IMHO it is for me.
Besides, I paid my bass good money, and it's worth it, but I will be absolutely happy with the finish options I chose and don't need extra's (that cost extra $$$$$'s). I'm about playing, not about the show. And to me, Ernie Ball is the best bass I ever put my hands on.

I don't suppose it really matters, but I would like to see some real custom made basses to see what people like to change a stuff. When I see "I just got my custom made bass" and expect to see some cool finish or something like that and then see "Natural, maple 3EQ black pickguard stingray" I don't think the word custom is the right word. Obviously I pretty much on my own here!

I get your point, Ed.
If you want to see a cool custom made stingray, you should check out Sheryl Crow (I think it's with an Eric Clapton gig)... Let me look, I'll see if I can find a picture online.

ps: I read in your profile that you're a student at the Jazz-studio. Since the upcoming year, or...?

Transparent red is just so beautiful, but matching headstocks are not my thing.

If anyone else has some photos of custom finished Musicman instruments, please attach or make a link.

I said this once and i will say it again Ernieball is not going to build you a custom bass outside of what they already offer in the basses that they already have i.e electronics, different bridge (if you want one)and different types of woods such as Maple Burl,Wenge,Walnut ,Chechen or Tiger Maple and a few others.I'm sure they could if they wanted to however I think they would rather leave these types of instruments to be build by the guys like Mike Tobias,Roger Sadowsky,Ken Smith and a couple of others that are in this type of market.Ernieball,is not in this type of market.

Hi Ed.....

You're not on your own....I happen to agree with you....they are not custom Basses....people are only ordering options which are available to everyone.

This Bass, I believe, is custom as to colour. It belongs to my friend Chuck in Germany:

Especially made for German distributer "MusikMeyer". Only 25 in total. 1995. Sherwood Green with Rosewood. Matching headstock. White Pearloid pg.
