say I wanted to order a new silo or silo spec, will they do it set up for 10's instead of 9's if asked? or will the dealer you order it from do it? or willl they just not do it? lol....

I ask this question because if I cant get the silo I have setup with 10's correctly I might just sell and order new with a 10 setup......thanks.. :D

I love the neck and the sounds .....but I threw 10's on it and it needs to be setup correctly, I havent had a chance to attempt to do it. I have buzzing frets all over the place, but I still cant put it down. Those necks fit my hands perfectly....so I guess I'm going to do my best to set it up and see what happens....I'm tired of selling guitars...this one will easily be a keeper if I can get it setup right....If I have to raise the action to high, I'll have to part with it.... :( :( :(

You should try to bring it to a luthier to see if it can be set up better.
Chances are that the previous owner wasn't all that into EBMMs since he had many guitars.
Therefore, he probably give the setup the attention it may have needed!?

yep, I'll give it a shot and see what happens , there's a couple good techs around here that I can try also, but its about time I figure out how to do this stuff myself...I was able to setup my LP Custom pretty good so we will see with the EB... I'm just not sure about the neck, its so dang straight, I dont think it should be completley straight.... :(

Dude, I think your out of luck, I think that they all come the same, no string changes.

Did you file the nut on your Silo to accept 10's?

I put 10's on mine. No filing of the nut was necessary. I made one small tweak to the trussrod and had to crank down on the trem claw a bit to force the trem back down with the increased tension of the 10's. A couple of bridge saddle adjustments for good measure and it was done. It worked like a charm.

That being said, I just recently went back to 9's, but yes, it can be done with little effort or problems.

If I've learned nothing from this group and Jon in particular, it's give it a try, you just might surprise yourself. :D

No filing required, use the pencil tip trick to lube the nut slots, that's it.
As far as the truss rod goes, you are about to enter into a world of delight, my friend:
The best and easiest way to adjust your action is to use the truss rod. To lower your action, turn the wheel clockwise. To raise your action, particularly if you have fret buzz, turn the wheel counter clockwise. It is always a good idea to make just one or two turns at a time, then play it and see if it needs more adjustment. It normally doesn't take many turns of the wheel to notice a difference.

A "turn" as defined here is inserting an adjustment tool and moving a spoke of the wheel from one side of the neck to the other side.

So use something like a small narrow screw diver or an allan key that fits somewhat loosely into the spoke holes and voila.

After adjusting, give the guitar sometime to react.

In your case I would do the following. Check the profile (bow or hump) of the neck by fretting the first and last fret. If you wish to measure use a capo at the first fret. Then whilst the string creates a straight line you can see what profile your neck is. In other words there should be a small bow in the neck, or a tiny gab between the string and the 12th fret. I don't measure I just eyeball, and after a while you'll necome accustomed to your own preferences.

Now if there is no gap, then you most likely have a hump, so turn the wheel counter clockwise, and likewise if the dap is too great turn the wheel clockwise. I have found that and Jon has given more specific instructions on this, that greater bows or gaps also create buzzes.

Quote from Jon:
If you are getting a buzz in the lower end of the fret board, you need more relief. If the buzz happens in the upper part of the neck, make the fret board flatter(less relief) and raise the saddles until the buzz stops.

So once you get a nice tiny gap, you can now concentrate on your action. Using a straight edged ruler, make sure 0 is at the end, measure for each string, from the 12th fret to the underside of the string, thus recreating the neck's radius.
: What is the string height off the neck supposed to be?
A: The approximate factory settings are 1/16" or 1.5875mm from the bottom of the string to the top of the 12th fret.

You can now adjust the individual saddles to match the desired action height. I use both the wheel and the saddles to get my action just right.

ok I'm a 2/32 or 1/16 all the way across the 12th fret, actually a tad more on the higher strings...so thats good...I guess I must adjust the truss...

Yup that's sweet action bro, now keep in mind any adjustment made to the truss rod will afect your action, so you may, once you get a nice profile, go back and adjust via the saddles...
