I own a 1983 PREEB stingray (2band eq).
Can someone give me a definite reply if the bass/treble knobs are cut/boost or boost only?
I hear and read a lot of contradictory opinions on the internet and got confused.

There is a misconception that 99% bass knob is boost only and not cut.

Even the manual is not specific on this.

Eventually, this myth is rejected...

I didn't think about this all the years. Usually I do have the bass control open at 95 to 100 % and turn the treble knob until the Ray sounds ok. I don't have to turn those knobs very often.

Use the set screws on the knobs as half way markers. Really helps!

Does this apply to the Classic SR's A.J ?

Because I had a "nirvana moment" when Rod Tussbroken informed me that the Bass control was boost only and the Treble was boost and cut on the Classic SR's?
In fact I've been telling everyone and am more than likely a sauce of this potential miss info, I apologies in advance if I'm incorrect.

I would suggest rod gives us his opinion here again . Boost or cut/ boost?

What A.J. says above.

The 1978 Pre-EB hand tag manual describes the Treble and Bass controls as both cut and boost. This applies to the EB Rays aswell (including the Classic series) as they use the same preamp circuit as used on the Pre-EB Rays from around 1978 (the earlier Pre-EB preamps were a little different, especially the 1976 version).

1978 Manual HERE

Thanks Rod - v useful.

IMO these basses really sound like nothing else in the world with the bass on full boost and treble backed off a little from full.
