I love my Cutlass and even the pickups but I also love Dimarzio Areas and I have an extra set that I would love to try in the Cutlass. I would probably replace the pickups and pots as an assembly but I am not sure if the output buffer would be usable. Anyone been down this road yet?

I've replaced the pickups in many EBMM guitars. Each time I end up putting the originals back in - EVERY time. YMMV

The output buffer would work just fine, no reason why not. The silent circuit would be best bypassed with the Areas, as they are hum cancelling already.

BUT, if you decide to go ahead without it, you could order a new pickguard from EBMM and just install the Areas in that. Easy to swap in and out, should you feel the need.
