I went to the Hollywood Guitar Center this afternoon. I was just killing time playing around with the EBMM guitars (my local GC never has any). The 20th Anniversary Silo is pretty awesome... to bad it was missing an A string.
I bought some Wonder Wipes and some Super Slinkys, and on my way out I figured I would check out the basses. They actually have a great selection of EBMM basses. They had several Stingrays and Bongos and a Sterling that had two big-ass deep body scratches
. However, what caught my eye was a Dargie Stingray tucked in the corner. It was the H H Model, and when I picked it up, I noticed it was a fretless.
I had never played a EBMM fretless before, and I have to truly admit that it was the best feeling bass guitar I have ever played. Don't tell my brother, but it felt even better than his fretless Alembic. I don't know if it was just because the action was set just right or because it was fretless... but it felt and sounded WAY better than the other Stingrays, including the 30th Annivesary.
The price was actually pretty nice too - it was the same as the standard Stingrays! I had a hard time putting it back.... but I figured the divorce would cost alot more than the Stingray in the long run.
I am not really much of a bass player although I do own a Stingray and I like to play it a bit. But, if you real players are looking for an awesome fretless, I would head down to Hollywood before that baby is snatched up.
