I have been hunting for another Stingray lately. Imagine my surprise when I log into GC.com the morning and find 2 dargie delight 'rays! One a fretless single H and the other a fretted HH, both four strings! Now here's the meat and potatoes question.......Is $2499 a realistic price on those? A basic SR4 HH might top out at 1899? Is the dargie worth 600 more used? Don't get me wrong, I'm infatuated with the dargie delightsand would love to own one. I'm a noob to pricing used rays. Can someone help me out? Fellow member gearhunter420 has an immaculate bongo dargie and he wants $1750.........HELP? Any explanation would be appreciated!

Here's how you can tell if the price is realistic--are you willing to pay it? Or, do you want to wait around until another one (maybe) pops up used?

That's it. No one else can answer the question whether it's a realistic price, or not. They are rare. There are not going to be any more of them (unless there is a Dargie III, and that would be different in some way, I'm sure).

Would I pay $2500 for one? No. But, that's me. But, I want another Big Al 5. If you want a Dargie Ray, you don't really have a lot of choices.

They're pretty rare, and hard to come by especially if you want a certain model. Fact is that they do sell for considerably more on the used market then standard models. However, I've never seen one sell for more than new price.

2500 sounds a bit much perhaps, but on the other hand there were only 21 SR4HH's made in Dargie Delight. I payed less for mine, but still somewhat more than the list price for a new standard SR4HH. To me it was one of my best bass deals ever, love everything about that bass. :)

Oh, and here she is:

beauty

I would love to have one but can't justify paying the $2500 in my own mind! You number x out of 21 is a real beauty though and I must admit that i am jealous!:)

And you are in Sweden!

That one on the right doesn't count (I have one of those too). I have collected a few of the original Dargies. I am planning to move my two DD II though. To me the original Dargies have more appeal the DDIIs.

I'll be blunt here. Obviously it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it.... But I've owned three of these and the fretless that this GC currently has lived here a month or two ago.

In my opinion $2500 is out of line compared to recent sales. Ask to talk to Marcello over there and tell him Matt told you to talk to him.... Make him an offer and he's likely to work with you. He was kind enough to call me when these came in and I've worked with him in the past.

I got mine from gearhunter420 :D about a year ago but had been looking for about 2 years for the right combination, as mentioned earlier, if its the bass you want but you think its too expensive, make an offer, he can only say no.

The longer you wait I would suspect the opportunity to get one will reduce due to these falling into the hands of collectors who will either hold on to them or drive the prices even higher.
