Hello,
New member here... my name is John and I'm from the Philippines. I originally bought my first EBMM EVH back in 93-94. I didn't have that much cash, so I sold my electric (a Kramer...can you tell I'm a VH fan?) and added cash to get a red one. It was my main and only guitar for the next 4 years...so it IS used. I then came across a used blue one being sold to me by a friend of mine who "didn't like it" and opted for a Gib LP instead... although it was newer than mine, it was more battered since he has heavy hands.
The blue one then became my "alternate guitar" with a D-Tuna added, and it being used for alternate tunings.
I'd say both would rate about a 6-7 in their condition...hardly collector's stuff... but I'm not a collector.
These are the serial numbers:
83227 (Red)
84212 (Aqua)
As you can see... neither one is shiny... that is because I waxed them both, and they went into storage for 6 months... when I took them out... they were all sticky..
now, I'm searching for a good luthier here that handles vintage guitars to give them a general cleaning.
The blue one also has a toggle problem (ever since, the guy who sold it to me broke it... dunno how... it now stops in 5 places, instead of 3..still works though) and a missing bridge piece... that little black block of metal that clamps the string inside the trem... that thing. Right now I'm just using one from a Floyd, it's too small but it works.
Problem here in the Philippines is that we have very HIGH humidity... so I have to try to keep things a bit drier otherwise the wood may grow mold and warp. I keep a small silica gel pack inside each case just to balance things off.
I love both these guitars and don't intend to part with them. They may be worth more than I paid for them... even in their current state... but these are guitars that you can't just run out and buy anymore. The beauty though of having not-so-perfect rare guitars is that you're not really scared to use them the way Eddie would!!!
I used to play Poundcake when I was in highschool with a real drill... ahahahaha
