Turns out I have to go away for Memorial Day (in-law duty), so I figured I'd check to see what the local GC has...just to determine if it's worth getting up early to hit the big sale on Monday.

Went to the Dealer Locator on the MM website, typed in the zip and....

the store's there, but the link to inventory is gone.

Looks like it's that way for all GCs.

Bummer! What's the logic behind that? It was a cool feature.

1. It could be it's just busted.
OR
2. If you know they don't have it, you won't go in.
So now you have to go to the store to find out they don't have it.
... and maybe you'll buy some Wonderwipes on the way out. :p

If it were just busted then somebody other than GC would be dead too. Each of those links points to a single dealer.

The second point works in reverse too. If I know that a GC has something I'm looking for I might drive to go get it. I'm less likely to take a random trip, at $3.50 a gallon, on the off chance they might possibly have something of interest to me.

I know that, and you know that, but does GC know that. :D :D

Maybe they are in the midst of automating it so that current GC stock is better reflected? I seem to recall that the factory outgoing is automated but unless the dealer notifies them, they have no idea if it is still in the dealer's stock.

Hopefully, BP or an EBMM elf can shed some light.

Its not searchable because it is impossible for them to keep track of it. The problem with that locater is that is was put there as a tool for dealers to turn their inventory but few update it.

Thats a shame, I found it pretty handy in my searches. It even help me to decide where to take some road trips to see basses that I hadn't been able to check out. I wouldn't have gone to the GC store in Rockville if not for that search. :( It was much easier than calling to see what they had.
