ok, I just wanted to know some info on string deals and what not. Can anyone get these by doing the right things (sending cd's or video's to Ernie Ball) I play shows alot on the east coast, atleast one or two every weekend and I usualy change my strings b4 everyshow cause i play the **** out of them. Some people may say i'm crazy for doing that, or say its not needed, but if they played my bass after my set they would do the same. Theres no life in it, you can bairly hear the string after-words, and they become week, so week that i tryed that boiling teq. and when i put them back on, they snapped, and this was during a set.

This is my problem, and i'm thinking that a string deal would be nice, or atleast would help everything. I not looking for anyone to buy me every pack of strings i use, but i was hopeing there was something inreach... I play Super Slinks because they seemed to be the best and cheapest out of every brand i have used...

So if anyone has any info on string deals, please share

If you're serious about getting an endorsement, you need to market yourself and put together a professional looking proposal. Ernie Ball will ask "what's in it for us", so you need to detail the exposure and/or benefits that EB will get from having you as an endorsee. If your sales pitch to EB is "I want you to give me strings because I play the **** out of them", then don't hold your breath.

Like I said, you'll need to put together a professional looking proposal, and in the proposal it might help if you make sure you spell words like "label" correctly :)

Seriously, treat the proposal like a job application. You have to convince Ernie Ball why they should give you strings. eg. What benefits will they get from having you as an endorsee? What can you do for them? Is your band the type of band who will appeal to prospective purchasers of Ernie Ball products? Are you good role models?

I am not in a band that will almost certainly be signed to a major Lithuanian recording conglomerate (which is also involved in aluminum siding sales).

Now then, as a Bongo endorsee.....

1. What benefits will they get from having you as an endorsee?

I will promise to haunt every bass discussion board on the internet and flog the Bongo to simply everyone. (I'm already doing this, but right now I just think of it as 'practice'.)

2. What can you do for them?

Ask not what I can do for the company...

3. Is your band the type of band who will appeal to prospective purchasers of Ernie Ball products?

Wait, I have to be in a BAND? Can't I just be sort of a, um, PERSONALITY?

4. Are you good role models?

Dude, LOOK at me! People flock to me! I'm like a prophet or something!

Shaver,
Obviously you've got some form of management in place if you're getting signed to a "big" label. Talk to someone on your management team to get a hold of the prospective companies you want to try to get an "Artist Deal" from. Most companies are good about giving some form of discount direct from manufacturer to artists who might not be on Billboard's Top 200 but do have exposure and selling potential to their market.
good luck man and remember to Giv'er! :D

Shaver, Does your band have a website? I agree with Psychicpet.....If you have management in place let them help you out and build your portfolio. Keep a dry towel or cloth handy to wipe your strings down with or use that "fast fret" stuff if you haven't tried it yet. I've tried it in the past and it gave my strings some extended life. :D
