Hi guys,
I really could use your opinions for this one. I will be travelling to various venues for a live gig (some pretty remote: Finland, Abu Dhabi, Brazil) and would want to rent a backup for my beloved Axis Super Sport, rather than travel with an extra guitar.
So the question is, what readily available (i.e., mass produced, easy to find) axe could you suggest for me to try to rent in these locations?

I know this is highly subjective and you might be inclined to say "whatever you are comfortable playing with." But my question is, specifically, which axe could be integrated into my live setup with fewer adjustments AND be relatively easy to rent in the U.S. and abroad?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

cheers

It really makes a difference what's available where you're going to rent. Why not pick up a Sub 1. With some wiring and a 5 way switch, you can get the same switch choices that your ASS has.

Thanks for the suggestion. But that would mean flying with the backup in addition to my main guitar. I was trying to see what "easily rentable" axe could sub for my Axis SS as backup...

cheers

what are using the most on your ASS? the humbuckers(1,3,5) or the split position (4&2) ? then you can decide what is the most useful for you either a HH type of guitar (gibson) or SSS (strat)

Fortunately or unfortunately one of the things I like most about the Axis SS is its versatility: I use 1,2 and 4 mainly.

You're question is pretty tuff to answer. So many countries each having a different selection. Pretty much any two humbucker guitar with a 5 way switch will get you there in terms of your pup positions but quility of the guitar and or it's electronics remains to be seen. Tuff call bro. Might want to start scouting out where you will be and start finding ways contact local music stores in the area to see what kind of stuff they stock.
