On the way back from my sons rugby tour of the Isle of Wight I dropped in at the Brighton Centre on Sunday night to take in the DP tour.

Three bands......

First up - Thin Lizzy - classic stuff, great line up (Sykes, Gorham, Mendoza, Aldridge).

Styx - not really my cup of tea but very good at what they did. When they played "Sailing Away" I was just pissing myself laughing because all I could think about was Cartman's version from South Park!

Deep Purple were awesome. More so than before when I have seen them they seem to concentrate on Steve Morse a lot more. He was totally on fire - played a bit of Sweet Child Of Mine before going into Well Dressed Guitar and was on the nail with everything all night.

He played his No 1 for the solo spot, played the Y2D prototype (with white pickups) the most and a second Y2D which had one of the silver toggles near the neck pickup like the original guitar. Anyone know what that one does?

All in all a great night and highly recommended.

What were Lizzy like ? I picked up a DVD of the 1983 Thunder and Lightning tour , dirt cheap in Asda's over the weekend. Saw them during that tour at the Brighton Centre. The footage certainly brought back some memories.

Ooooooooooooh!!! Deep Purple is great as it is, I believe they've put on a great show.

But, hey ho! I'd love to have seen Thin Lizzy in that line-up! Of course, nothing will be the same as it was with Mr. Lynott :(, but this line-up really consist of ace musicians! Some of my favourites!

I was at the Deep Purple show on Saturday at Wembley.

Pretty much agree with DaveB although I managed to arrive late enough to miss all of Thin Lizzy and most of Styx!

Was it me or were Purple extremely loud, or am I just getting old???

PS: I am a veteran of 10+ Motorhead gigs!!!

The 2-way switch on the Y2D is used to add the bridge pickup to whatever is selected on the lever.
