Designing the next PDN...

I'm going to have some fun and pretend I'm the product manager for EBMM and design the next PDN limited edition package.

Swamp Ash body - translucent finishes (green, purple, red, blue, orange, amber, grey)
Solid Pau Ferro neck and fingerboard
Clear gloss headstock
Stainless frets
No dots on fingerboard
'2013' inlaid at 12th fret
Luke 3 preamp

If it were your call, what would you spec for the next PDN?

We are talking the Silo, the Morse, all JP's, Reflex, Axis, AL, Armada, all Lukes, Every model has a clear natural headstock, and flamed birdseye maple fretboard. Pau Farro fretboard is available as an option. BFR models available. Hardware will be gold.

Sounds cool. If I were in the product development meeting with you I would probably throw my 2 cents in and suggest standardizing a body wood for the limited run, since clear finishes on basswood (Axis, JP) and poplar (Morse) can be kind of ugly. But this is your PDN, so whatever you say goes!

what about ebony fretboard on an unfinished roasted neck, stainless steel frets and trans-gray-black-burst, matching headstock and black-chorme hardware?

Black sparkle, rosewood neck, gold hardware. 'Nuff said.

Radiant red alder bodies or optional trans red on instruments with maple tops, ebony fingerboard on roasted maple neck, black hardware, natural headstock, Luke 3 preamp (i'm so original I know). Either some kind of artsy inlays or no inlays at all. Maybe I'll just make it Silhouette only. In fact make it a one instrument run

Albert Lee, roasted maple neck, Pau ferro fingerboard with stainless frets and black dots, vintage sunburst finish, JP trem with solid steel saddles, that'll do for starters!

Alder body with the MM mahogany tone block and an obnoxious quilted maple top. Add in a roasted maple neck with the oil/wax treatment and a pau ferro fretboard with SS frets. Clear gloss on the headstock to show off the roasting, and then finish the body in a light blueburst.

Lovin all the ideas, just not the nitro finish. I want my finish to be durable.

For me Id just like a fat baseball neck profile, stainless steel frets, and flamed iced tea burst. With all mahogany body.

AL roasted maple (finished) neck, SS frets, rosewood fretboard, SSH pickup configuration (or just 2 MM90), ash or alder body, finished in pewter.

Joe, you are hitting all my soft spots. Great specs my friend.

I haven't yet tried the SS frets but I've heard lots of great reviews on them.

I would be happy with a BFR HHAL (Add hand stained quilted maple top ala Axis Tribute)

or

BFR Silo Spec (Quilted Maple top, Mahogany Tone Block, and All Rosewood or All Roasted Maple neck option)

Either one would make my day!

Does ebmm still do the "BFR" 12th fret inlay? (which I love, and I think the font looks very classy)

I thought the evolution of the idea went: Dargie, Dargie 2, BFRs, and now PDNs.

So, is that to say they've retired the awesome BFR crest? If so, I'd like to see it on the PDNs.

If you order a BFR guitar you get the BFR inlay (unless you get a PDN BFR where the PDN package cancels out the inlay, which may not always be the case).



The Ernie Ball Limited Editions started in 2004 with Radiance Red and Envy Green, then 2005 ButterCream, 2006 Black/Gold, 2007 Blue Dawn, 2008 Sequoia Gold

Ball Family Reserve production aka BFR started in 2007/2008 with a few guitars and basses and then the addition of some very special packages (all rosewood neck pkg, gloss roasted maple neck pkg, etc) which took the place of the Limited Editions.

The Premier Dealer Network is basically a limited edition program for a select group of dealers, similar to the special runs of instruments that are made for Guitar Center, Kanda Shokai (Japan), Mogar Music (Italy), etc. The PDN doesn't supersede BFR, the two run concurrently.

I would produce a Luke with a quilted maple top and gold finish. Like the limited run of 10 guitars made for Japan. Just with Ebony fretboard, unfinished roasted maple neck and natural headstock.

It would be great if the unfinished roasted neck becomes a standard option.
