I was at the GC in Syracuse and met a guy decding between a Warwick and a Ray 5HH. After about 20 minutes of talking and jamming, he walked out a knucklehead.

Cool! The weird thing for me is that a LOT of the employees at GC know next to nothing about the gear they "sell". I have probably helped sell over 20 different things such as amps, processors, and of course basses. I met a guy in the Raleigh GC that was the bassist for a very large local church that bought a LOT of gear from this particular GC and no one was even trying to really help the guys (the praise leader was there as well as the drummer for the group). I struck up a conversation with them and asked the guy (who was actually a PHENOMENAL player) what he wanted and he said he had a Ken Sm&th but needed something else for the church because the Smi%th was just not the flavor they were looking for...I pulled an SR5 off the shelf, tuned it (while telling him they were made in the USA and some of the people who played them including yours truly and other juicy tidbits of EBMM lore) and handed it to him and he tore it up...played the bejeeezus out of it. The other 2 people with him were grinning ear to ear and so was he. Long story short I asked him if he would buy the bass that day if he could get it for the right price. I advised them on an amp purchase (the real reason they were there) and negotiated a sale for him for the amp (a used Eden Metro that was in GREAT shape and he got a killer deal on after I haggled a LOT for him) and the bass. They left with the amp and the bass for a little more than he probably would have paid for the bass by itself if I had not been there...

Moral of the story....Since it seems that MOST stores in general lack the good business sense to educate their staff (or more likely the staff lacks the desire to learn about what they are selling...Sweetwater is a good exception to this!!) We should take the opportunity to "help" spread the word about the products we know something about and have good experiences with...Since we are all knuckleheads here it would seem that EBMM would be a good place to start...:D

Next time you are in that GC or any other store and there is a MM sitting on the shelf try and get it into the hands of someone who may not (and most likely does not) know what it is! The more people that play them the better!

Remember friends don't let their friends play crappy gear!! I don't know about the rest of you but I don't think I can ever have too many friends!

Peace,

T
