hello, i am new to guitars. a friend of mine is trying to get me to buy a 20th anniversary silo and start practicing with him (i think it has something to do with cheaper lessons). originally i was thinking about deciding between $200 guitars like the strat copies or epiphones.

i was wondering what the differences between that and the silo special is, seeing how much cheaper the silo specials go for on ebay. does anyone have video clips of the 20th? i've seen one on youtube from guitar world reviewing it but i am not sure if its the sound that i like. it sounds more country to me.

im into the heavier stuff. anyone feedback from anyone that already has a 20th would be great. also what kind of amps or pedals would you recommend for the distorted kind of sound? thanks a bunch.

I use a silhouette special for heavy sounds, but I did change the bridge pup out, that will be necessary - the 20th silo has more vintagy pups in it, not as hot as say the axis or the duncan distortion I have in my silo special so keep that in mind, if you like heavier stuff I would go with a silo or silo special and change that bridge pup out for a hotter pup that sounds good in an alder guitar like a distortion or a dimarzio evo or something along those lines- I will try to post some recording of my silo special if I can fid them - with all that being said the 20th is a nice fat sounding guitar, and if you go with the 20th I would not change the pups out, they work for that guitar -

welcome to the forum.

here's another clip of the 20th. its our fellow forumite Tristan (also an MM endorsee) rippin it up like he always does:

this clips definately not country but its still not full on death metal tone either.

I have a 20th and use a Boss Metal Zone with it when I want it to get all suepr distorted.

you should be able to get the 20th to do just about anything. it rules

I think either of the two would make a rather pricey first guitar and would (as a parrent) suggest a slightly less costly instrument to cut your teath on - such as MusicMan's excellent SUB series guitar.

Both the regular Silo and the Silo Special are EXCELLENT guitars and I recommend them highly. Though I haven't tried the 20th I'm sure it's an amazing instrument as well. I seriously think that all three of these guitars can play any kind of music out there - I'm playing some pretty heavy stuf with my Air Classic equipped 6-string and have no problem at all. My pick would be the regular Silo with an all maple neck - the 20th is just a bit too flashy for my liking.

Cheers
