.....Just chilling with a can of Harveys Best (UK'ers will know) listening to some Gerald Allbright stuff. Just made me remember when an old guitar teacher I had years ago told me if you want to learn great phrasing and play memorable guitar solos listen to great sax players like Sonny Rollins, Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker etc. I can't say I listen much to those really old ones but I find myself listening more and more these days to players like Allbright, David Sanborn, Wilton Felder/Crusaders stuff etc.. also great groove drummers like Steve Smith, Steve Gadd and Dave Weckl for inspiration, probably more than other guitarists (Please don't flame me LOL). I guess when you listen to players like Larry Carlton (phrasing genius) , Robben Ford, Lee Ritenour even Luke I'm sure my teacher must have been right. Does anyone else look to other instrumentalists for influence or do you all just listen to favourite guitarists ?
