Is there anyway to fix a dinged neck? My strap came off and the neck came into contact with a sharp corner. It's only indented a millimetre or two.

let's have a big debate about straplocks..:p

seriously, if you can't control your bass enough to keep it on the strap, then get strap locks..

as far as your ding.

is it a recent model, meaning, oil finish, no poly.

if it's the oil finish, then you can get the ding out POSSIBLY.

take a couple sheets of paper towels (thick ones), get them wet, all the way through. put them against the ding, hold a fully heated soldering iron against the paper towel for a small bit (judge by the towel itself.) it won't burn because it's wet, and it will most likely smell bad. turn the towel, and repeat. I'm not sure how to explain whats actually happening, but it's bassically steaming the wood out. i've gotten dings from a few different guitars this way.

If your ding is deep, then you are pretty SOL. but if it's not so deep and is more of a dent, then you are good.

if you do this, don't be stupid about it. It can work and get the ding out, but if you are dumb about doing it, then it can cause trouble.

tips: keep turning the towel, no burning paper towels near your neck.

don't over do it.

if you aren't comfortable doing it, don't.

enjoy

A friend that is a master woodworker showed me this one:

Another way to get the ding out is to also place wet paper towels over the ding, next placing a piece of tin foil over the paper towels to keep them from burning and then using a steam iron (with the steam turned off) to remove the ding. Just go slow and keep checking under the towels.

I guess the unanimous decision is wet papertowels, and a heat source?

excellent.

either way works, the iron is probably a more ballanced heat over the surface, while the soldering iron is easier to move around.

use either option to your better judgement and let us know how it works out.

I do have straplocks now. This was just at a practice and I wasn't moving at all. In any case, I'll try your guy's suggestions. It's very small and not very deep so...
