So I'm buying a Stingray 5. I'm very excited and it's supposed to arrive sometime in February. But, there may be an issue.

I'm a left handed player and as such haven't been able to properly test drive a Stingray. I fiddled with a right handed one upside down at my local music shop and decided I liked the feel. I made the resident bass player there play the hell out of it for me and I love the tone.

After checking out some videos online, I decided to order an HH. The one at the shop was a single pickup variety.

My question is about slapping on an HH. I like to slap and pop with my thumb right on the neck and my index finger tucked in almost touching the neck. After looking at some photos online, the forward pickup seems awfully close to the neck and I'm concerned about getting my big sausage fingers into the little gap.

I don't want to have to change my whole slapping technique, but I also don't want to bump myself down the list by changing my order. Can anyone with an HH tell me how far the forward pickup is from the neck?

Failing that, anyone with an HH have anything to say about slapping with it? Is it a hassle? If it is, are the added tonal options worth it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and put my mind at ease about a fairly major purchase.

Welcome to the forum Spider5 and since you're a lefty welcome to the Kingdom of Lefthanzia! Get to know the folks here and have fun!

The first question I have to ask is did you order a right handed SR5? Because currently EBMM doesn't offer the StingRay 5 (or SR4 for that matter) with two pickups in the left hand version. The Bongo is currently the only model that can be ordered left handed and have the two pickups.

As far as the pickup placement it seems that most have no problem at all, but some do.

PM me if you have any lefty specific questions (I've already asked them all :D )

Well I ordered a lefty... Now I'm concerned. I'll have to head to the shop and make sure the guy ordered what I asked for. He never said there was a problem with the order, although I'm the first person there to order one not "off the rack." They just started selling MM instruments about a month and a half ago.

My bass isn't coming until February sometime anyway, so there's plenty of time to make sure it's all good.

Anyway, I've checked around a bit and found some other people asking the same question. The general response is "Your popping has to be tight, but it isn't a huge issue." It's kind of reassuring since I pop with my index finger pretty much brushing the neck heel anyway. If anything it will just make my technique tighter, which is fine with me.

I appreciate the response and the welcome.
