Anyone out there make their own power amp before? Is there a good and SIMPLE (ie, one tube, one volume control, mono, one channel) that you have built or know of? Thanks for any info.

There are a couple of books on the market that would be a good starting place (don't know the titles off hand, but you could try "the gear page" for advice).

Weber in the states offers some good amp kits. I keep meaning to try one out but my basement is messy enough as it is :p

Well, that's always the problem : for electronic you need 3 things :
1. Enough space
2. A good soldering iron
3. Tranquility : no wife, no kids around ... so you can get yourself electrocuted without disturbing anybody :D

Happy soldering

#3 is a double-edged sword ... nobody to bother you while you're working but nobody to call 911 when you need it ;)

Kinda off topic, but I used to do board level electronics repair years ago and I got busted by the anode on one of the old CRT's, my buddy standing next to me got smacked in the face when the juice hit me and an involuntary muscle contraction caused my hand to swing up and hit him.

We also had an old UPS that when we were working on it we had to have a rope through our belt loop and one of the other techs would hold the rope in case we shorted ourselves across one of the huge capacitors in that thing... DC doesn't let go.

Be careful out there kiddies... some of those amps can pack a wallop.
