Thinking about buying my first set of coated strings for my Ray. Do these strings really last and hold their fresh tone as long as they claim to? - (3 to 5 times longer than traditional strings) What should one truly expect?

Since my hybrid slinkys usually last for about a half year i can't answer that question yet. They don't decompose any faster though ;)

In my opinion the data hasn't been in yet. More people need to try them and provide feedback. The guitarists seem to like them for what its worth.

I'm trying the strings myself - so far so good but is less than two weeks.

Maybe not that long, but they do last longer, like two times longer IMO.
