It will make a Big difference to the one that has a 'big' ear. I'd keep it original ... If you have dough to spend then replace them!

some guys rave about the stock pickups. just like Kaloyan said, it all depends on your ears. If you feel something lacking in the originals, I would strongly look at the new JP pickups - crunch lab and liqui fire.

just for reference, go to Dimarzio's web page and look at the various pickups and what frequencies they emphasize. Some are more mid heavy, some more bass heavy. The differnces in the charts they have will give you an idea just how drastically different pickups can sound. You may or may not want a Dimarzio, but their site is really good for giving that idea.

That site is what sparked this thread ;)

ah ha... well.. I think that you answered your own question then. LOL If you have a sound in mind... and the pickups you have are lacking some mids maybe, or a bit of highs... maybe a change would help. If you really like it's sound as it is... you should try a few different guitars that are similar (basswood) but have different pickups and see how they react with your amp.

I know that if I break a string on my BFR during a show and have to use the Ibby JPM... it doesn't cut through the mix at all... It's better for the beefier heavy stuff, but it doesn't have near the bite and mid cutting through the mix effect.

I love the stock pickups on my JP50,

amp adjustments is all I need to get my sound right,
it all depends on you actually,
I would be replacing the stock pickups when I need to, lets say when I feel like i needed it right now.

The stock pick ups are great. I'm putting the Crunch Lab/Liquid Fire into mine just because the tones of those pick ups are closer the tone I'm hearing in my head. It's all about what you're going after.

I actually prefer the regular D-Sonic to the Crunch Lab, but do like the LiquiFire quite alot.
