Please excuse the ignorance but Im a bit flustered....please move if this isnt the correct forum.

I just installed a Brand new set of coated Slinkies yesterday... I get to the G ...which Ive cut a little shorter than I liked but still decent amount of string (2 wraps around the post) and the dang thing keep popping out. I can actually hear the string detuning and backing out of the tuner as I tighten it... I had this exact thing happen with a new set of EB flats about a month ago... thankfully that held...but not this one..had to reinstall the old string...

I dont like a ton of winds...is it that Im just cutting em too short?

Is the string all the way down the hole of the tuner - and sharply bent at the first turn? Try overlapping the first wind with the second. Leave enough for 3 winds next time.

How i do it is make the cut, (generally the distance from one post to the next = one wrap) 2-3 wraps for the E,A,D and 3-4 for the G and leave enough so that when its pushed all the way down in the post, make the first bend then remove the string from the post and bend the end of the string flush then push it back in into the post so in effect there is two pieces of string in the post holding it, wind it on an job done :)
