Question Do you notice a difference in movement with Birdseye?

Do you notice a difference in movement with Birdseye maple?

Granted I noticed that a lot of the birdseyse that I do see with EBMM has a high gloss polyester and/or roasted and that is going to help with stability.

So my question to those who own Birdseye do you have to adjust your basses more frequently then say the others that do not?

Big Poppa - I would love your input on this...

I partly ask becuase
I have my buddies 30 Anniversary with my on loan for who knows how long and He is on the fence with selling it and it has a fair amount of birdseye in the neck.

Don't think birdseye or not is a factor, my 30th has plenty of birdseyes and is rock solid.
Wouldn't worry about that, hope you get it!

Nope, not at all. My 30th has a lot of birdseye, as does my Sterling fretless, and the necks are rock solid. Can't remember the last time I adjusted either of them, thought the 30th had a bit of fret sprout at the start of the winter. Moved it to the basement, which is a little more humid, and problem solved.

I always heard that the Birdseye was not as stable per-say.

I'm going to gig with his bass this week and I have to say its not as heavy everyone says they are IMHO. Looking forward towards it.

I like it...It little different in mids as compared to a standard Stingray...I cannot quite put my finger on it...

i dont notice any difference with mine. I use a classic ray and fretless ray as main gigging basses and both have a lot of birds eye. Theyve had to put up with temperatures in case/gig bag in the car during the wierd british winter from -10 to +13 over the last couple of months and the only adjustment needed was a minor truss rod tweak on the classic and that was only caused by it arriving in the middle of the summer and having a v low action setting which caused buzz when the cold weather arrived. They have proved no different in staying in tune or adjustment than my SR4 HH or SR5 or bongo all of which have been out from time to time also.

I have a 30th and I adjust the neck twice a year (as the seasons change here in New England). A slight turn of the truss rod wheel each time and it's fine.

Same here..I think any neck is going to need seasonal adjustment..Birdseye or not. I have 4 main players. A fretless 30th Stingray, 92 Stingray fretted w birdseye neck, a Fender jazz with 75 RI neck and a 78 Fender P with birdeye neck. All need adjustment about the same time. Once in the summer and once in the winter.

IMO the 30th is the best Stingray out there.

You're all talking about poly finished necks, what about oil & wax finish.... I found the oil & wax finished figured maple had the tendency to move a quite bit more. Had a Sterling with a crazy birds eye maple neck which needed weekly adjustment. And one of my 20th Ray's also was a bit on the touchy side. Coincidence?

Thats what I'm talking about.
I had a Warmoth neck years ago with a satin finish that was loaded with Birdseye and it moved more often then not.
I heard from more then one luthier that it is temperamental. As a result it was one of the reasons why I started playing cabon fiber based necks for so many years.

Hence my original post.

syciprider please don't think I was putting it down in any shape form or fashion.
Just a healthy discussion (This is one of the reasons why I was hoping for Big Poppa to chime in and give his take).

The origin of my post really had 2 points

1. Do you find any more movement (and the general consensus is no)

2. Is the reason why you normally see birdseye with gloss necks is because its tendency (in theory) is not as stable as standard maple.

Both tie into that I have 30th in my possession and was curious thats all.

NOTE: The folks that say its no different where also referring to classics or 30ths which are glossed necks. My apologies if I sound like I'm splitting hears here. (Unless I missed something...Which I could have)
