Any significant history associated with it?

EB never put the old Sting Ray and Sabre guitars into production when they purchased the Music Man name - only the basses (and I think the Sabre bass was retired in the early 1990s). You can get the date of manufacture by removing the neck and checking the stamps on the heel and in the neck pocket. Also, the "II" means it has a 7.5" fingerboard radius (and a "I" would have a 12" radius).

The original Music Man's are closer to the early G&L guitars - Leo Fender's company CLF Research built them for Music Man (Leo was one of 3 owners of Music Man, but built the guitars and basses at his own shop). CLF Research was converted to G&L Guitars when Leo had a falling out with his two partners at Music Man. Leo left circa 1980; the Music Man company went bankrupt in 1984 and EB purchased the name and designs.

There is some good info on Greg Gagliano's site (he is a freelance writer published in Vintage Guitar and some other magazines). Here is a link to his G&L page (which includes info on Leo-era Music Mans) but it appears his "Sabre II" page is down:
