Does any one happened to know a good set up guy???

I don't trust the guy(s) I have taken my ball to before.....I wasn't happy with anythng he did to it.....so my question is this......does any one happen to know of a good set up guy somewhere in my vicinity?? I live in about 45 min away from Toronto, ON... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there slipagent,

The 12th Fret in Toronto is an authorized EBMM dealer and seems to have very capable folks there. You could also take the time and learn to do the setup yourself and save lots of money in the long run. The EBMM FAQs have some useful info - that and a good book or DVD by Dan Erlewine would be a good place to start. I also believe there are some short video clips on setups by EBMM technicians available on YouTube ???

There should be lots of helpful advice to follow my response...

Yep- 12th fret is great. Though they're usually pretty backed up. Several other good places here as well.

When you say setup- are we just talking truss rod/string height/intonation? Or do you need fretwork as well?

If it's just the basic stuff, you can learn to do it yourself easily. Hell, I'll happily spend an hour with you setting it up. Else we can try and find you a good shop to take it in to.

Long and Mcquade in Mississauga has done good work with my Super Sports in the past - ask for Dave Sirrs. Also, have had good results with The Guitar Shop in Port Credit and Gear Music in Oakville.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help......I would love to learn how to do the stuff myself, just don't have the confidence to do so.....or the knowledge but I will check out the available resources you guys mentioned and see maybe if I think I can do it. I can do the truss rod adjustment but have a buzz on the G string 2nd and 3rd fret and if I raise it to the point where the buzz is gone the action is too high for me. Also not sure how to set the intonation but will check that out online. Also When I break a string it tends to be one particular string all the time, I'm tired of having 15 spare packs of Ernie Balls all missing the D string as you can't seem to buy one particular Ernie Ball string, cause I like having alike strings on my guitar and I like the Ernie Ball strings. I think the Frets are fine but don't really know, I'm kind of a retard when it comes to the tech side of guitar, well the playing side too, but at least with playing I can try anything and it doesn't do any damage........except to my wife's ears...........
