Recently picked up a killer Albert Lee HH in black w/pearloid white guard and was looking to get a push/pull put in on the tone pot for neck and bridge splitting, would like to provide my guy with a Diagram/Schematic so he has a better idea of whats going on in there.

I've looked around online and can't find anything beyond the PDF on the Albert Lee HH page, which really just shows the pickup config:

Albert Lee HH

Any help would be great, Cheers!

This one is closer to what you want, because you have a super switch in your AL:
https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/ma...m__1vol__1tone__4_con__5_way_super_switch.pdf

But you still have to modify it. You have to connect the two wires which are soldered to each other to ground via the push pull pot. Like in this one:
https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/ma...vol_push_pull_coilsplit_tone_3_way_switch.pdf

Or in this one, if u want to split only one of the pickups:

Thanks for the replies guys, got in contact with customer service and they sent me the diagram for the Guitar Center version of the ALHH, which included the push/pull splitter. I haven't peeled off the pickguard of the ALHH yet so I wasn't sure if it was a super switch or not, but good to know that he won't have to replace it etc.

Anyway, thanks again, looking forward to the expanded tone by doing this, should be cool ;)

I'd love to hear what your experience is with the mod. If it's worth it, etc.
I have the wiring diagram too, my AL HH comes next month and I'm thinking of doing it but thought maybe I should hold off for a bit first.

Update:

So I ended up backing out after I got a call from the guitar tech I left it with saying, "I just looked at the diagram and have the guitar open in front of me, you know I will have to completely rewire this whole thing right?" I said I did know that but then figured he seemed flustered so I said just set it up don't worry about the mod. I just wasn't confident with his lack of confidence... I'll still do the mod one day but I think i may need to learn how to do it myself or something. :p

Yeah, I'd look for another tech. It's not hard to wire up and shouldn't take very long.

Btw where did you take it?

I live a block away so I took it to capsule, he did a great setup actually... But yeah, seemed a little weirded out by the time and effort (and money on my end) it would take. Told me he had to detatch the guard completely just to look at it, not really sure what that was all about... But I decided to scrap it and not risk a situation.

Anyway, any suggestions for mods downtown? :D

I work a couple of blocks from there so occasionally buy parts from them ... yeah, dunno about the techs. Seems like ok guys but I don't get the sense they really know what they're doing.

Adding a push/pull like that schematic means removing the pickguard, swapping out a pot and running a few wires to the 5-way switch. (You'll need to unsolder two of the wires.) It's not too involved, but you certainly want someone that can read a schematic and is handy with a soldering iron.

The guys at the Bloor L&M are pretty good. 12th Fret is great (but be prepared to wait). So it depends how much of a hurry you're in. Best way of course is to learn how to do these things yourself- pays dividends.

Totally worth doing it. My GC AL HH is hands down the most versatile guitar I have ever played. You have some many tones at your finger tips you feel temped to sell all your other gear ;-) I am sure you will love the mod.

Yeah, the guy was nice enough and maybe even knew what he was doing but couldn't be bothered or something, not sure... I do know that he didn't remove my strings so that is maybe why he detached my pickguard completely (just to get it out).

I think I'll get it done in the next little while, I have a SSS loaded guard coming tomorrow from EBMM for my HSS Silhouette Special, so I think I'll screw with that for a while and take my ALHH to the Bloor L&M, where I bought the guitar from, and hopefully they can help me out.

So, does the GC version just give you neck split in pos 1 and bridge split in pos 5, or is there more to it?

Sounds good. If you're really stuck, ping me, I might be able to help you wire it up one evening.

Yep, that's it- gives you the inside coil only in position 1 & 5. Sounds ok, but still nothing like a great single does (and you get the hum from the split coil).

I did a rewiring mod to only single coil the neck coil in position 1(neck) everything else remains the same, I agree with Beej, doesn't work quite as well as a real single. With my rewire of the 5 way I now have the "option" to electrically remove the tone pot and only engage for the bridge pickup. I'm mimicking a set up I have on my Lado Solo. Also added a bypass cap to the volume pot while I was in there. The Albert HH is now much more useable with my rig.

Would you happen to still have that diagram for the GC version with push/pull coil tap? I'd sure like to get my hands on it.

Thanks!
