I recently discovered Buckethead and heard his weird mute-unmute rhythms and was wondering if anyone often uses there piezo as a kill switch. I've never heard JP use this to his advantage either.
I've now used the switch few times like that, but due to the problems I had with pickup toggle switch I'm still a bit afraid to "abuse" the piezo switch, although this might be just a mental thing...
I have a custom made 7 string with a button kill switch but I've never really used it. I just kinda wanted it so I wouldn't make noise when I'm not playing.
I had a special type of push/pull pot installed on my old ESP (before I traded it for my EBMM) that had a particularly light 'pull' with no 'clunk-click' when you turned it on. Just a nice smooth pull on, and a smooth push off.
Anyways, I don't know how my tech found that particular pot, or what exactly it was, but I used it as a kill switch for years on my volume pot, and worked wonderfully. I would have used a push/push but I've heard of pretty limited life and reliability on those.
It doesn't really apply exactly to the terms of this thread, but if anyone was reading and happened to want to pop a killswitch on their guitar, that'd be the way I'd recommend, outside of going to 1 less knob as a sacrifice for a button switch.
Also, those fender pots with the push knob built into the top of the button would probably work great too, and would be totally stealth on a Silo or AL, and look great on some Axis models.
My piezo is weird because its just the knob and no extra switch. So I turn the know and it blends it from pieze to electric. WIsh I hd a JP6 with an actual switch but its cool it works just weird.
