Does EBMM quality, design, feel, tone, etc. make you buy more guitars than you otherwise would have bought if you were buying guitars from other manufacturers? In other words, if you had never bought an EBMM, would you still be buying as many guitars made by other manufacturers?

I think that in my case EBMM quality has induced me to buy more guitars than I ever expected to buy. I had one F-brand guitar for the longest time. I also had an I-brand guitar. Actually, I still have both tucked away somewhere, but I never really considered having multiple copies of them. I may have bought another I-brand or F-brand to upgrade, subsequently selling one of the old guitars, but I don't think that I would have ever considered multiple copies of the same thing except for maybe having one back-up. Perhaps, that's due to the inconsistency of a lot of other manufacturers. Having, three, four, five, or even fifty-five of the same thing is something I never really would have considered were it not for EBMM's great guitars.

Here, I see people with multiple copies of Silos, Axes, JPs, ALs, etc. I've even contemplated doing the same. My guitar buying has really accelerated over the past couple of years due to the greatness of EBMM guitars.

Even in terms of buying different models of guitar, EBMM has kind of enticed me to buy more than just one. I thought I was a Str@t guy or Ib@nez Wizard Neck guy, and I was never really going to be heavily into a lot of other guitars. Then, I tried most every EBMM out there, and I found many of them to be to my liking even with all their different necks, feels, and tones. They're all fantastic. I've even said that I want one of every model.

What's your experience? What are your thoughts?

Having EBMM guitars has certainly raised my quality standards, in terms of what now constitutes a "good" guitar to me.

Before actually buying an EBMM, I was aware of the Luke and StingRay, but that's it. Since I bought my first Luke it's definitely prompted me to buy models I otherwise probably wouldn't have looked at seriously, like the Petrucci and Axis, and I'm interested in trying a Silo. I also bought a Bongo!

At some point I'll be buying another Axis hardtail as I found that is my preferred configuration of Axis, much to my surprise as an otherwise trem guy.

And as for buying multiples of the same guitar, I normally wouldn't get two of the same model unless the pup configuration was different, yet I now have 2 Lukes and am GASsing for a BFR Luke.

Being a lefty, my choices were limited to a lower end Ib@nez and one type of Str@t or a Les P@ul. Then when Sch3cter guitars started releasing left handed models for almost all of their guitar line, I started buying them up. I owned 5 Sch3cters at one point. Then a friend of mine turned me on to EB. he owns 5 EB basses and I just loved the feel of the neck and the overall quality craftmanship. So, I took a chance, having never played one and sold 3 of my sch3cters and bought the LE 07 Luke Blue Dawn. Well, 8 months later, I have sold off my remaining 2 sch3cters and 2 other crappy no-name guitars and I have my Silo Special coming to me any day now! right JeffreyB? please say soon JeffreyB?? :D

Loving this company just for making the the world class guitars that they do would be enough, but after dealing with customer service and seeing all the love and support on the forums and an owner who goes above and beyond to please his customers/friends, they have won a customer for life. Who else can offer what they do??

Rob,
That's certainly been the case for me. I thought I wanted one of every type, but once I got my honeyburst Axis SS, I knew that I could stop looking. I sold all of my others and will now have an Axis SS in every hardware configuration. I thought my GAS was over but I was sitting there noodling this morning and thought that I should probably get another one in H/H hardtail to keep in an alternate tuning... maybe 2. Where will it end? :D

As far as other brands are concerned, I thought about buying a PRS on 2 different occasions and backed out on those and then for whatever reason, I had a case of the classic impulse buy. 2 years ago I decided that I *needed* a Les Paul Standard. I stopped by GC on my way home and picked up one in ebony. I had it for about 6 months and realized that I had made a mistake and went back and traded it for the buttercream Silo Spec. I'm done with that stuff and am more than happy where I am now.

This isn't the collection mode of my life, but I could easily see why collecting MM could be fun and interesting. I think one reason is that there doesn't seem to be the "finding a good one among a bunch of mediocre ones" thing, which is the norm with Fenders and Gibsons, new and old alike. The quality of MM guitars makes buying them reliable wampum.

In general, though, I think that happens more with smaller, quality oriented guitar makers with a loyal core following.

I remember your saying that you have kind of found your "home" on the guitar with the ASS. I hope my "home" isn't the 20th Anniversary Silhouette. That might present a problem if I ever choose to accumulate a number of those.

Does EBMM make you buy more guitars?

Well, if you consider the fact that I don't currently own an amplifier (I've been playing through my Mac using Guitar Rig 3 and Logic 8), I am patiently waiting for Egnater to get more MOD50s in stock, and just last night I had this big urge to order a JP6 BFR, I'd say it's conceivable that EBMM does something to you mentally to desire more guitars. :D

I just sold one of my Ib@nezes that had been collecting dust ever since getting my EBMM. I think I may let my other Ib@nez go as well because I haven't even taken it out of the case since getting my JP7. Maybe I should pick up a JP6. Hmm...

Try an AL, you'll freak. I'm a believer that the JP6 is an extraordinary axe. The AL is a perfect compliment for those single coil moods.

My standards have definitely increased since owning two JP guitars. I'm down to one now but that is only because I wanted a portable boogie and needed some more funds for a BFR!! Best guitars on the planet IMO...

Well, it certainly makes me want to buy more. I've been shopping like crazy and making lowball bids on eBay so I can have that 24 hours or so of hope that something completely crazy will happen and I'll actually get that JP for $350. Sad, I know. :D My wallet, on the other hand says that I can't buy more. Hopefully, one day, I'll be able to answer this question with a resounding yes.

honestly it made me buy fewer guitars. before i had to have one guitar for this sound and one guitar for that sound, but my JP's do all the sounds I need. I actually dumped a lot of guitars when I got my balls.

I would LOVE some BFR action, just can't afford it right now. I would also like an SR5HH.

I've always been kind of a "serial monogamist" with guitars - a bunch of them have come through the doors of casa John C but they typically don't stick around.

I've added it up, and since getting serious about the guitar 29 years ago I've had 29 guitars come through. That sounds okay - one per year - but I had a 5-year hiatus from playing in the 1980s and 27 of those 29 have come in the past 10 years. And yes I'm married to a very understanding wife:D!

A lot of that was in search of a guitar with a neck that didn't cause various RSI issues to flair up. In late 2004 I finally found a guitar that really worked - an EBMM Silo Special. I stupidly let that one go to move in a different direction with a vintage-style instrument. That didn't work, and after a "false start" with an Albert Lee (I'm going to leave them for all the ALOC members ;)), I'm now back to the Silo Special and it won't be going anywhere.

Right now I also own 2 Fenders (one is my first good guitar from 1979 so it isn't going anywhere for sentimental reasons) and the other is a 2007 "we can only give you a store credit since you're returning that amp" forced purchase (best thing in the store close to the price of the amp). It will be going out soon, to be replaced with another EBMM. I can say this; since finding EBMM my GAS has really become focused!

John, Silo Special devotion must be a Gemini thing - two days apart, and am also into Silo Special monogamy. :D
