Hi I've been cleaning up my Axis and in a burst of mad enthusiasm I stripped down the bridge to give it a clean - the saddles are marked on the back with either a I, a II or a 3 ... the troubles is I have 2 x I, 2 x II & 2 x 3 .... are these markings red herrings and there is no order or have I made a tremendous blunder?

What KG said. The shortest saddles for strings 1 & 6, tallest for strings 3 & 4, the mid height saddles for strings 2 & 5. All to follow the 10 inch radius of the fretboard. I can't recall the numbers as they correspond to height but you would have something like 1-2-3-3-2-1 or 3-2-1-1-2-3. Tallest in the middle.

Just for my Info- are you guys saying the saddles themselves are different thicknesses? Or is it just the height adjustment screws that are different in adjustment?

kramer, the saddles do follow a "numbering" system (F.Rose has theirs, musicman has theirs, Peavey, etc. . . ) however, I ALWAYS change them up (and I have several of each size per each guitar brand), and use saddle shims to set ABSOLUTE PERFECT ACTION!!

Note: some saddles are interchangeable between different guitar brands and some are not.
