Maybe a dumb question. Forgive me if it's been asked before... Does the Al come routed for humbuckers?

I've never seen one without a pickgaurd so I've always wondered.

I've not seen a picture but aren't they routed differently - with the SSS model having 3 single-coil sized routes and the MM-90 model having 3 MM-90 sized routes?

I had an AL with MM-90s but never looked under the hood.

Yes, each has a route specific to the pickup.

Bummer. I don't wanna hack into something that is a work of art just to put a humbucker in it.

I'd love to do a SSH or HSH.

Don't quote me - but you would prolly be able to do that if you got an MM90 routed model.
I know a guy who makes pickups (shed pickups, that knock spots off any after market pickups and are used by restorers) and can make them the size of your choice.
Voila HSH HHH SHH or whatever ya want.

You might also spec out a minibucker (as in the gold roller) or something like the tonezone p-90 which is a soapbar sized bucker, but I wouldn't count on anything fitting exactly unless you got actual specs for the routes and mountings
