...well, virtually anyway...

I've been cruising Ishibashi's "UBox" (used stuff) the last couple days and have made a list of possibles. What do you guys think? I'm not completely sold on the idea of shipping a guitar in from Japan, yet, but they're kinda cool.... I actually kinda like the pink one... :D

Nice lookin' stuff there, Jimi....I'm partial to the black one myself, and that teal blue lookin' one has a neat figuring. The pink one's kinda pale (but a salmon sparkle isn't a bad thing in my eyes), but the red one looks almost brown on my monitor so that one doesn't ring my bell.

But.....98k yen is about $900 USD, and I believe they charge another $100 or so to ship. So, you'll spend about a grand for a used Japanese repro instrument, and the going rate on used US Axii appears to be between $700 - $1000 on eBay. As a comparison, a US Fender vintage reissue '52 Tele is around $1000-$1200, and they have a Japanese version selling for around $400. Unless you're going for the novelty value of adding one to your collection, I'm kinda puzzled why you'd want one with all the nice domestic ones you have...

BTW, for a good linguistic laugh, have a look at this page on the same site:

http://www.excite.co.jp/world/engli...log/archives3/000067.html&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2

Anyone here fluent in both Japanese and English and can comment on why the language is so flowery and nuanced?

Actually they're not really a repro. They're parted here and shipped over there for assembly. So essentially you're getting an EVh style setup. I prefer the new Axis and the contours and what have you to the EVH's but to each his own. :D

Thanks for the clarification OC....that makes a little more sense, then, esp. if one likes that EVH configuration vs. the Axis and they don't wanna break the bank.

Any idea if the paint's done here too, and if the EX's have the resized Axis neck?

Hi Jimi...I still havent been able to pick up my EX that I bought way way back in feb/mar. Its still waiting for me in MI while I dream about it in the UK. I'll be there for Christmas so the waits far from over (it was to be thanksgiving but my remaining vacation days affected that idea!). Then I can give you a real comparison between a US Axis and an EX.

The only thing helping my pain is a couple of poloroids that my parents-in-law took but unfortunately they dont understand the exact science of photographing guitars so theres not much to go on!!! :p

BTW I was under the impression the bodies are stained /painted in Japan, not sure about the neck dimensions though.

Hey just noticed I'm on my magic one, post 69!! ;)
