I was wondering...how many Albert Lee guitars are made each year? Just how rare a beast is it? You don't see many around and when I'm braggin about mine the first reaction I normally get is "never heard of 'em don't they make strings???". Bottom line is how may Albert Lee guitars exist full stop?

i dunno any exact numbers but Im pretty certain (almost 100% sure) that all EB guitars are build when ordered. So, if im correct, the answer is "as many as were ordered" ... i think im right, but someone may come along and correct me on this.

I don't want any trade secrets from the factory but It would be nice to know from one of you insiders if there are 100s or 1000s made each year.

Bingo! Phatty...

We dont disclose actual production for ech model. The Big Al is an underappreciated guitar.

I was at the SF GC a few months back and got to play an AL for the first time and the thing rocked! One of the guys that worked there saw me playing and told me how he'd never played an EB before but when the AL came in he was blown away ... also said that he had a bunch of co-workers check it out and they were also likin' it.

It may be one of those guitars that you dont hear much about etc ... but when you get you're hands on one you'll definately remember it

I've never played one but I'm curious is there any logic to the body shape, or is it just the way he wanted it? They're certainly head turners...

Its not so much logic as poetry. As for Albert he didn't design the body - as I understand it he was offerred a prototype to try out and liked it so much he put his name to it. I'm sure they'd make you a lefty if you asked nicely.

When I was at the Hollywood GC checking out the Albert that Glenn eventually bought, a sales guy said something very close to that. My take was...No question it's an awesome instrument...I just wonder if they'll say anything to move product.

And of course I bought one about 1 year later.

Glenn, you gonna play mine at the open?

Well seeing as I am the crappiest player alive, I'll muddle with it, if your going to share Keith. Actually, I was hoping you'd ask.

I'm hoping for a closeup look at an AL at the open house as well. Given that there really aren't any EB dealers local to me, the only EB I've ever seen or played is my own Pet.

I really didn't like the shape of the AL when I first saw it, but from looking at all these pics, it has grown on me considerably. I'm dying to see one up close...

It's rumoured that they did make one lefty Albert Lee - it was a custom order for a little known musician by the name of Sir Paul McCartney...

i think i remember reading previous posts here that the AL body shape was the Axis prototype. Then EVH used the body for his sig ... then the AL became the AL. (hope im not confusing things)

if interested use teh search function up top and youll see a few cool stories about that.

guys the albert lee was originally a prototype for me It was after a sushi lunch with dudley where we talked about a cool wacky jetson like guitar. dudley decided that that was a good idea but added a touch of genius......using strat balance points...both of the strap buttons are in the same place as a strat.

Big Al played the 1986 eb xmas party and I showed him the guitar dudley made for me and he was besides himself so I gave it to him.. Interesting note the proto we are talking about as ultra light highly figured maple not ash. pink sunburst..the eighties baby

any pics around? would make a cool "xxxxday maddness" post.

The guy that talked about the AL w/ me at GC knew i was there helping a buddy pick an amp ... so he wasnt in "sales" mode (not for the axe at least).

i really dug the frets on it ... might be an EB standard, but for some reason the fret height/size struck me as exceptionally comfy.
