I think he's talking about the double thumb technique. I too have that technique in my bag of tricks but its not that useful. Its fun and impresive to the non-bassplay'n folk but thats about it.

Also the double slap isn't the most thumb finger joint friendly technique available. It can realy screw your thumb.

That's how I feel, too. It might come in handy at Guitar Center, but for 99.99999999999% of music out there, it's completely inappropriate. Of course, I feel that way about slapping, in general--if I hear a popcorn popper, I expect popcorn!

Congrats of figuring it out, though, if it's something you want to do.

It is true. While I'm a major slapper and ultra-whiz kid  , my chops are actually useful only for

a)A solo spot(quite rare in most situations, but I'm lucky)
b)Personal enjoyment
c)Improvisational music where the audience is usually a bunch of other ultra-whiz kids.

Kudos to you my friend. I am just not that coordinated to do it. Maybe I just haven't found the right person to show me how. Anyway congrats on the new technique! I appreciate bassists who are trying new & different things, whether or not they will use them much in performance.

i find it usefull, i slaped all the time in my old band, and not just in funk songs. in our more rockish songs i used to slap notes to form chords and it mad a usefull effect. its hard to explain how or what this is, its more a show and tell thing
