OLP doubleneck question.

I know this isn't the OLP forum, but since OLP's double neck is a licensed version of an Axis, has anyone tried one? Owned one? Thoughts on it or other OLP MM licensed guitars?

I really want a Double neck 6 & 12, and since EBMM doesn't make them for the general public, I'm looking at others. Most of what I've read on places like Harmony central gives good marks to OLPs, and if they're set up right, they're supposed to be pretty good guitars.

Here's a link to the specs:

This one is in the running with the Epiphone 1275 - the cheap version of Page's doubleneck.

Thanks

i own one and it was a good decision to buy it.
i just changed the PUPs of the 6-string and she was perfect for me.

it´s the cheapest doubleneck i found on the market and the best thing is: it looks like an ernieball! :D
the quality is o.k. on this guitar and she has a really fat tone!
it even has an asymetic neckshape like the EVH/Axis!

Why? I am also interested in this model ,just a few pup changes and maybe tuners and would a perfect guitar for me.

Don't get me wrong on this guitar, you could easily make it very playable. But they are heavy and could even be described as clumsy, you would not get thru an entire gig with one. The positive side is they offer a visual element to the audience and can be made to sound good. If you get one consider stringing the 12 string the Rickenbacker way and use Ernie Ball strings.

I think they look sooooooooooooo cool (pacific blueburst would be cooler, though), plus I play about 25% 12-string these days.

I'll have to find a GC that has one.

Whats the Rickenbacker way?
See how the smaller string is first and then the larger string? You can reverse that (requires a new nut cut) , I feel this sounds better with distortion.

That's interesting - the Rickenbacker way. I've played 12 string for 20 years and never heard that, I've always strung with the higher string below. I'll have to try that. Thanks.

Distortion with 12 string? Is that even allowed?

I tried one in my local dealers. Good too!
Price is Looooooow.
I've played Gibson and Arbiter doublenecks and as previous comments have said they are heavy and clumsy.
But if a 6/12 config floats your boat, then the OLP would be a very good choice.
The pickups sound very good. The fret dressing left a little to be desired but could easily be sorted.

sure and it even sounds meaner as a dropped D, now I'm giving all my secrets away. Keep this one to yourself Keith, I don't want Simon to find out. Not until he shows me the new amp anyway.

Re Doubleneck question

Hope I'm not too late to jump into this thread. I have played and owned an Epiphone doubleneck, and currently own a lawsuit Dillion doubleneck (both deadringers for the Gibson EDS1275), but bought an OLP doubleneck based on the simple fact that the 12 string neck is wider than the 6 string neck. On the Gibson, and on the knockoff Epiphone and Dillion, the 12 string neck is the same width as the 6 string neck - a bit too cramped to stick an extra set of strings on, doncha think?

I bought mine through eBay and was very pleased once I had it home - excellent string spacing on the 12 neck. The only concerns I have are the balancing of the body and the bridge placement on the 12 string side. I use the button below the 6 string side to try to balance it out on the strap, but you just get used to how it hangs and work with it. It is lighter (in my opinion anyway) than the other EDS1275 style double necks. The bridge on the 12 string side is not quite placed properly - it really should be about 3/8 of an inch farther from the nut for best saddle travel and intonation, but again, you work with what you have. For the money, and the playability, the other concerns are really minor - and I gig with it every weekend.

Actually that guitar has me lusting for an EBMM - and I am looking at an Axis done up in the EVH style (Floyd and D-tuna). I play Les Pauls and the occasional Strat, but I need to have a locking trem, and dive only, so the EBMM seems to be the choice. Hopefully I will soon post here as a proud owner...

I'd be interested if the bridge on the 12-string were a piezo... :) *Wanted Dead Or Alive* :D

Does anyone know any doubleneck which is a 12 string acoustic + 6 string electric, and it isn't JP's or Slash's? :D
