while there is no way i can accurately portray how cool this kid is.......
last night sharon brings her son (Tim) w/ her to our thursday night gig to shoot a little video footage for promotional purposes.........being the little techy wiz kid that he is.....
so.......he casually picks up a bongo & starts noodling a little. by this time...i had the p.a. up & dialed in & the house up . i pick up my taylor & ask him just to pick on him .....what tunes do ya know ? he replies.....don't really know any tunes. so i just start strummin a fairly simple little 6 cord progression (not really thinkin he would latch on) . WELL !!!!! he jumped all over it !!! i was very pleasantly suprised (& instantly) when he apparently could suddenly practically read my mind as i just rolled along here & there . he's got the hands...the sense of melody....& the soul. just amazing. he's what.....15 ???? glimmers of musical genius. made my night !!!!!!!

k....
meanwhile ...mom was at a table peckin at some food or somethin......not sure..but anyways......suddenly she hears live music comming from the stage.....only to look up & see tim & i just makin really nice ( & totally improved) music . well the look on her face was  ...as i think even she was bown away by the music we were able to make . & the uncontrolable proud grin on her face was absolutely priceless .this is the good stuff !!!!!!

Dang, them young whipper snappers................amazing how their minds just grasp things. I can't get my fingers to do what I tell them to.......damn fingers, I've tried threatening and everything. They still have a mind of their own. Cool story Tommy.

..........I shudder! We haven't crossed that bridge, and hopefully won't!

It was way to cool to watch my boy up there holding his own w/ Tommy! I've known he has a good ear - singing Elvis @ 2 and a half! But some of the stuff he comes up with on bass is just way cool - he's so unafraid to try stuff, and very inventive. I'm glad he doesn't want lessons right now - it might chain him down, and he's learning a mile a minute on his own. Oh, to be 15 again.......

Thanks for the kind words everyone - and for letting me brag a bit - I'm a proud momma for sure!:)

Careful, I almost spit coffee on this nice monitor you've got for me here.

They use them to smoke Dorado right? Or was it Yellowtail? I can never remember.

..........And, Tommy - I'm really glad you had as much fun playing w/ him as he did w/ you. He definitely thought that was really cool. His face when I first handed him the bass and walked away was pricelees - "who, me - play here?...with people around.....at a gig?!?!" I was laughing all the way to the ladies' room.

He only asked me about 10 times later if it sounded OK. I assured him it was more than just OK!!

What a great story. Yes, I would much rather find a child with a Bongo vs a bong.

Sharon, I wish I could have seen your proud smile.

Great story! And I know how great the feeling is!

Just got in from a great labor-day family BBQ that closed with my cousin and I playing a few tunes. Nothing new to the few family & friends hanging around, as this is a very regular thing for us and it hardly generates much noticeable interest these days.

Then we dragged my son away from some video-gaming to join us for a few songs (he's eleven) and suddenly there's applause, the cameras are going and the requests are flying. And my cousin and I, who have been making music together since we're 13, are completely psyched that we're jamming with my son.

It's a great feeling and a wonderful thing to truely share in with your child. :)

One night not so long ago, BP and I were on the phone and he was reminding me to pay attention to my nearly five year old because one day they're tiny and the next thing you know...........
