don't you mean "i really look like a singer now" because bassists don't have dreads, bassists are bald.

singers have dreads, singers and dirty stinkin hippies.

Thank God!, it's not just me then.

I am trying to go the full Tony Levin look, but I still need to lose another 3 stone first. Mind you I am not sure about that 'tash of his thoough, a little bit "Blue Oyster Bar" - I might start attracting the wrong kind of groupies!Ha Ha!

Why are bass players fat? - I wonder if anyone has ever done a study?

And why do they wear waistcoats?

maybe thryre fat so they can hold the groove better. they cant move around as much so theyre forced to feel the groove. unlike guitar players who have no groove to follow and can do whatever. thats my theory.

actually, i think the phenomenom only pertains to good bass players, i've seen some really skinny lame bassists.

I had a student once that was this chick whos parents bought her a usa jackson bass because she said it was cute.

it had a rabbit on it or something...

Anyway. good bass players are fat because, unlike those bumbling gitfiddlers, we inspire awe and respect, often times bringing on the line "man, you got some skills, im gonna buy you a beer". this caused something commonly refered to as the "beer-gut" or "beer-belly".

As bass players, we maintain our stout figure in many different ways, as well, we have excessively muscular arms, this is due to us carrying or "hefting" our own gear. We have an independant mature attitude that is not present in other members of the writhem (sic) section. Drummers for instance have a particlar call:
"hey! can you grab that bass drum?". Often times the phrase "bass drum" is replaced with the Christian name or psuedonym of another percussion instrument (eg: snare, tom tom, "crap").

In conclusion, it would be prudent to reiterate, bass players are in no way to be considered "out of shape" of "unfit" because of their particular figure. This is merely an outcome of the genetic disposition towards lower level frequencies. The physical size and shape of the bass player has no indication of actual health.

Thank you for your time.
This study was funded by independant investors, and The People For Big Bassists(tm).

Couldn't have said it better myself! Though I would like to reiterate what I have said:

We are generally the ugly, fun-loving bunch.

Muy excelente! Phear our unsightliness and bow down to our grooves!
