Sheesh! Thought more people would wanna see this since it has some good shots of JP with his BFR and Myung with his Bongo. Both sound amazing on Metropolis! Especially that bass tapping part!

The album sound of the Bongo is the best I've ever heard Myung sound. He always had a pretty mediocre tone.

EDIT: What is that song that JP plays the Pink Floyd "Mother" solo over?

My friend (bassist) who has Myung as one of his main inspirations, complained that the Bongo "Looked bad on him". But then I let him listen to parts of the new album and he was like, "Ah, it sounds better." Then I told him he wasn't being endorsed (yet???) by MusicMan, and my friend said, "Well, I guess he really likes them then.":D:);)

James sounds perfect on those vids!

endorsements are all over the board. John wanted to try new stuff in the studio. He knew how happy JP was with us and asked us to send him some of our newer stuff.
THere were no promises on either side. I think that an artist is smarter playin what sounds best that what kind of deal they have.

He could change tommorow but I dont think so.....heheheheh

Incidentally, as of yesterday, he was still on their list of artists on their website. Not that it means anything... Just an observation. Of course, I'd rather see Bongos in his hands.

Our bassist has John Myungs Yamaha. Its a decent bass. And people do like the way it looks. But, from what I've seen its not what you'd call "high end". And it does have it's problems. Also, from what si (our bassist) has said, and this is jsut pure speculation, it doesn't look like he gets much support from Yamaha. This is by no means an attempt to flame them. I dont know much about Yamaha guitars. But you do get the feeling that if JM wanted to try something different that Yamaha wouldnt be to forthcoming. If Mr Petrucci approached BP with an idea we can all see that EBMM would go all out to try and make what he has in his head a reality. The BFR F-1 is shining testament to a company that believes in their artists and product.

Besides, EB's basses are world renowned and second to none. I don't think Yamaha can have too many complaints really. I'm not going to say anymore because it is all just opinion and speculation. I could be wrong and I'm sure Yamaha did what they could for JM. But, Balls look good on John Myung, and in my opinion, Dream Theaters over all sound will benefit from his choice :)

I will say something about the Yamaha bass. What innovation was in it? It was a Music Man Copy Pickup and a Demeter preamp. Certainly not alot of paradigm shifting design work. Sorry Yamaha if you dont like this but maybe if you had tried some real innovation besides the shape you may not be having to read this.

The fact that some of the richest companies innovate so little in the guitar and bass business is sad,but is a golden opportunity for guys like us.

I must repeat that I have never sought out another companies artists. It is bad karma in my opinion. When someone who is playing( to put it kindly) a derivitave of our stuff approaches us about using our stuff, it is about as easy as arm wrestling Woddy Allen to make them happy.

BP - nice to hear someone so senior in a company telling it like it is! Ouch!

I can now understand why you can hear John's bass so well on the new album - previously, the production put it down in the mix so you couldn't hear the lousy tone, but now he's got a decent bass, well...why not turn him up?

Rock on! Rocks off!

That for me is the pinacle of what makes EBMM the best, forget the fact that your guitars sound and play like a dream(wet!),its the innovations,I remember picking up my first EBMM and being amazed at the neck joint, what?! I can have the spank of a 25" neck and not have to fight with a stupid square at the heal?!WHAT!I can have a bridge that stays in tune as well as a floyd and can be used practically the same if set up as such oh oh oh and I dont need to spend an evening messing around if a string breaks on it!

Dont even get me started on frets that are finished sublime and dont cut your fingers and a 4/2 Headstock, hate string trees. wow what a messy ramble but your innovation is appreciated every day I play,oh and erm we can get a compentated system now with no need for someon e to chop my neck up! Original shapes!
