I 95 is the Direct route 740 miles of boring interstate. IMHO the west is best Rocky mountains All the States are cool as long as its in the Rockies. The Rockies take your breath away. I have been trough most of them inthe US. AMAZING views beautiful animals. I hope to get back some day. ;)

I’m going to SC in a few days myself to pick up an Ampeg B-15R full stack.

Now let’s see, going down 95 these is a big music store on the right once you cross the SC state line, you can easily see it from the road and take the next exit and get to it. I haven’t been there in years, but I remember they had a well stocked place, might be some cool basses there. I can’t remember the name of the store, except that it was right on the interstate and very visible.

Back in my commuting back and forth to Florida to catch the Bellamy’s bus I stopped there a few times. Friendly folks, but the prices were high. It’s down in SC a ways but you can’t miss it.

Have a safe trip,

Chuck

I have visited your big island a few times, Minnesota mainly and Anchorage in Alaska, and despite the odd political view we get in the media here, I found myself very welcome and at home.
The scenery was stunning and big.......will not forget those sunsets - huge skies.

Its funny looking at the places where people come from on the forum and wondering what the towns and cities are like, especially after reading someone like Garrison Keeler.

Chuck Levin's (http://www.chucklevins.com/) in Wheaton, MD. Well worth the trip. A great MusicMan Bass selection along with lots of amps and other stuff. They also have great prices. It is really not too far off of 95S.

Southworth guitars (http://www.southworthguitars.com/) in Silver Spring is also really cool and not too far off of 95S. It is almost a museum if you are into the early Leo Fender bass creations. This one is not too far from Chuck's. They seem to have less on their website than in the store.

Other than that, all I know of in the Baltimore/D.C. are are GC's. both of these places are within a few minutes of the DC beltway.

Sounds good. It would be good to get out of the Bumper to Bumper traffic for a Bass break ;)

Rob,

The US Interstate Highway system is really amazing. They are roads that criss-cross the entire country, odd numbered highways generally run north-south and even numbered ones run east-west. (Note that this only applies to Interstates, and not all other highways at state or local levels follow the number scheme.)

If you have an interstate such as I-79 (I being short for Interstate), other derivative highways work like this:

an even number prepended to the Interstate number indicates that the highway re-connects to the original highway at both ends. i.e. Interstate 279 is connected to Interstate 79 on either end.

an odd number prepended to the Interstate number indicates that the highway deviates from the original highway and does not re-connect. Thus, Interstate 579 is connected to Interstate 79 on one end only.

Well thought out plan, and it sure makes navigating easier when you know the basics. We've got SOOO much land area over here, and Americans love their cars, so we do a *lot* of driving.

Sorry for detouring from the topic, Oldie but Noobie.

YEah sorry man for the hijack - was hust sitting here in Great Yarmouth its raining and then reading all these cool sounding place names.....who said the romance of travel is dead!

The interstate numbering sounds pretty handy - have you tried our hotch potch of a system? Pretty messy - and we have a spagetti junction!

I have to go to Greenville, SC to pick up my latest evilBay purchase. With the price of gas it would have been cheaper to ship the amp, but this is my much preferred way of eBaying, pay in person and pick up in person. It’s about a 6 hour round trip for me and I may go Sunday or Monday.

You have a safe trip and remember radar detectors are illegal in VA and they can tell if you have one on.

I believe radar detectors are also illegal in SC, so be careful yourself.
My brother-in-law went to chiropractic college in Greenville/Spartanburg area. We drove down once to visit and had to be wary of radar detector laws off and on as we went through PA, WV, MD, VA, NC, and SC.

I remember an "Audio Light and Magic" on Military Highway in Norfolk. Is it one and the same? Possibly worth a look since I second the good store label but Norfolk's a bit off of the I-95 corridor. 'Bout 1-1.5 hours to the east down I-64.

Richmond might be a better place to stop (I-95 cuts rite thru it). Especially since we have a forum member in the area. Armybass, you out there?

Too true, too true. Also, they've been cracking down with no tolerance zones. I've had friends get pulled over on I-81 for doing 5 over. Glad I moved out to AZ before the craziness. Detectors are not only legal but pretty much standard equipment out here. Interstates in NML are 75mph and they usually tolerate 10 over or the flow of traffic.
