Dropped a D-Sonic in my Morse UPDATED CLIP

Start Player

I just put a DiMarzio D-Sonic in Ernie Ball Morse and like it! I have two Morse gtrs and have the hard tail set up with DiMArzio Anniversary PAFs and the trem Morse is now looking more like the higher gain axe. Teh D-Sonic has lots of clear low end information. This is Axe FX Ultra with High Energy Model on rhyth gtr and American Lead on lead gtrs all to recto cab model with U87 mic sim. Strings deader than Jerry Garcia. This is probably hading for further writing and HWM #2?

What Pug said. John, your stuff always sounds great man!

So what's your verdict on the various pickups and how they stack up to the Morse originals?

Thanks guys, the D-Sonic has a little more information and punch on the really low end than the Anniversary PAF, so it is the better choice for higher gain, detuned stuff - as I am here in a C-G-D tuning with crappy, dead, too low-gauge strings. The PAF is extremely warm and articulate for medium gain rock-hard rock stuff. Clean, it is beautiful. This is the only thing I've really done with the D-Sonic, so I can't really say too much yet about how it covers the other ground.

Yo Beej,

As far as the Morse goes, if I had three Morse guitars (instead of just 2), I'd leave one completely stock. The second would be how my hard tail is presently set up with Anniversary PAFs and a Area 58 and 61 (middle/bridge respectively). The third would be how I think my Trem Morse is heading with the D-Sonic in the bridge and maybe a PAF Joe in the neck.

Hi, John.

The sound of your new stuff isn't doin' it for me like that solid cut with the Hammond B3 sim in the mix, remember? I dunno man, something expressive and organic was lost when you went to the FX. I had to chuckle at the "lots of information" comment, but to my ears and gut, that's how it sounds now, like information.

Sorry, bro. Too candid?

Thanks, people can never be to candid if the general intent is constructive in my opinion. This clip is part product demo and part work in progress. I too love the color and heft the organ adds, but still lean here. FWIW after finishing writing and producing a very demanding jazz-rock album with Marco Minnemann over the last year (Spring release on Abstract Logix) I'm actually in the mood for a stripped down hard rock sound at the moment.

Woops. Didn't know it was part of the product demo.

Yeah, I didn't mean the organ itself, but your guitar riffing tones in that and other earlier stuff were so juicy and motivating! Your stuff always rocks John. I'm just knit pickin' based on my own preferences of what you've done. :)

BREAKING NEWS...

Start Player

Here’s an update of Toro with a contrasting groove and melodic section, tune still in progress. Definitely gonna hit this with the full band now. I hope to finish writing after time with my family on our Christmas together!

Happy holidays to everyone!

Killer. Love it.

Merry Christmas John, and thanks for sharing your stuff here. It fires me up! Something about the looser or spongy but yet powerful chaotic feeling, that I like most. It gets me right into the wheels with no effort. Thanks.

Ya know, nornally I identify a groovin' pocket with drums and bass. This is one of the first times I have heard it successfully pulled off with a guitar in the mix.

Mean - that's all I can say....

The tone was warm, yet gritty and that was cool. Very nice John. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough...:D

Makes me wanna stick my Air Zone and Air Norton back in my Morse along with my Duncan APS-1 in the slanted single coil position...
