Hi,

Looking for some help with choosing a small, no nonsense drum machine. I just want to us it for practicing solo, so no need for amillion bells and whistles. Not looking to break the bank, but don't want to cheap out either.

Thanks guys,

Small, no nonsense.. I'd take a metronome :D

Wrong answer maybe..

Do you want to have a piece of hadware or do you want to run it as software in a computer?

:D

syciprider was faster, good choice.. also one ZOOM RT-223 would be ok, sounds a bit better but is not as easy to handle, I'd also go for the Alesis.

I'm in the same situation of looking for a drum machine.
I was using a friends a while ago, it was a small looking BOSS unit (about the same size as two of the pedal pushed together) i forget the model number of it, it was a few years old but very simple to use, just plug it into an amp and away you go !
Will send an email and post back with model number.

Just looked it up, it was a DR220 (either the A or E model)

An old Alesis SR16. Try Craigslist.

+1. I had one and it really helped with my time.

The SR16 typically uses an A and B pattern in the style you've chosen (e.g. Rock #7). When you hit a footswitch, it runs a drum fill to move from one pattern to the other. Because you have to hit the switch a tiny bit before the beat, this refines your sense of timing even more.

Compared to the BOSS unit i had in mind it seemed to be twice the machine an "Looks" a lot simpler to use so perfect for my needs, so thanks for the heads up !
