I do like the originality of it, but I think the middle section has no relation at all with the rest of the song which is great, so the least of it present, the better. Plus I'm tired of the "trading solos" structure of it all: a couple of riffs in unison by the whole band->first riff with a guitar solo on top->second riff with keyboard solo on it. It's been going on and on like this since Liquid Tension Experiment, on every album. I love many of those songs, but come on...

I agree with this but DT has settled on this as their go to song formula.

Yeah I know it gets old, Mike Portnoy even mentioned it in a interview somewhere but he said not all the songs are necessarily like that. I also read in a review somewhere that that formula is only present in the first 2 songs of the new album. So Im hoping they have some really good different songs. I heard that "The best of times" is suspost to be really good.

I have the feeling this is the "Forsaken" song from this album: the radio friendly, simplest song. I don't expect the rest of the album to be like this song.

I hope. Off the last four albums, the songs I like by far the most were the longest and least conventional: Enemies, Octavarium, Consciousness, Six Degrees. That is Dream Theater to me.

Those are all amazing songs. I think one of my favorites though by Petrucci (just Petrucci) was on LTE, which is "When the Water Breaks", and "Acid Rain", I can never get enough of those two. I like all the others as well; "Paradigm shift", "Universal Mind" etc!

I know, kinda trailed of the DT subject...Continue.
