Dtuna added to Axis, D/E goes flat

Hey there,
I just added a D-Tuna to my 2006 Axis. I followed the installation from this youtube video.

The install seemed to go ok. I used the longer screw and when I tune the D and the E, they are in tune. I used the small allen key to fine tune the E.

I play for a bit and then when I check the tuning, it is flat. I retune and repeat the process, play again and then the pitch goes flat. (I had tried the shorter screw but was not able to get the E to the proper pitch so went back to the longer screw.)


The rest of the strings stay in tune.

I wondered if it had anything to do with string stretch but I am doubting that.

Any thought would be appreciated.

I read some other dtuna posts but no one seemed to have this issue.

First I would make sure you stretched out the string when you re-tuned and maybe check to make sure the string is secured in the saddle. Another thing to check is that the bridge is flush with the body. Hope that helps solve the problem.

Thanks for the response. The bridge is flush with the body and I had thought the string was sufficiently stretched but perhaps not. I'll try reseating it and see if that makes a difference.

I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing someting obvious.

After reading so many posts about the dtuna I'm wondering if it is more trouble than it is worth as well. I was really excited to get it and have that option.

Hello,

I believe the problem lies inside the D-Tuna itself. Sometimes, you need to smooth out the inside of the tube so that the screw and spring slide unobstructed. There is sometimes a little burr or defect in the metal that needs to be smoothed out.

What guage strings are you using? I had a similar issue and when I switched the low E from a 42 to 46 the issue went away. I don't thing the D Tuna likes 42's for some reason.

I have a Dtuna installed on my 01' Axis and it works flawlessly. Love the convenience.

I tried reseating the sting and that made no difference. I'll take it apart and look for a burr or defect.

It is a 42 on it right now. I'll try a 46 and see if that makes a difference.

I have a set of cobalt 9's I haven't opened yet as I read that they have tuning issues with the dtuna as well so didn't try that set.

Completely with Simon on this, and another reason why the MM vintage trem beats a floyd for usability!
