What are you guys using these days? I have researched the Boss DD-20 so far. I am currently using a Carbon Copy and its great, just want to be able to access a few more delays at the tap of a switch or bank up and down if necessary...instead of adjusting on the fly..it doesn't have to be complicated?

The Flashback X4 is pretty awesome. You have 3 presets, tap tempo and tons of different delays with subdivisions. Also a looper mode. They are releasing the Toneprint editor soon, so you can dial in your own delay if you want. It sounds really great and very simple to use...unlike the Strymon Timeline...but I really want that one since there are so many endless possibilities with that.

Uses to have an eventide time factor and use a TC nova system. The time factor is one of the best delay that I know.

I've got a DD20 on my big board, DD7 on the small one. I've been through all the other popular ones, but kept coming back to the DD20 for the mod delay sounds and combination of features.
DD20 is in a parallel loop with a line mixer so I can blend it in ... DD7 takes an expression pedal, though the parallel approach definitely sounds better. Mostly I use the mod and tape delay.
There are a million delays out there, so you really need to figure out what specific features appeal to you. Eg: delay types/presets/physical size/display/instrument or line level/tap temp/expression pedal/kill dry ... and so on. Also makes a big difference if you're going to be putting this in front of your amp vs in the loop.

Thanks All- I have surfed some on these. I really don't use delay a bunch, but wanted to start. I use a MXR Carbon Copy now and it works fine for some nice little tails, but I would like to be able to change patches on the fly and do some more delay stuff, especially now that I have an LIII! I don't need sophistication, just more and switchable choices..road durability is a plus too. Will keep working on this..just wanted a direction..Thanks !!

I own one and its definitely an incredible pedal chocked with versatility and delay types and banks to choose from (can also be connected to a computer to edit and save presets if you like that that kind of thing.)
The only downfall is not being able to bank down, only up. Other than that, great sounding delay.

What is the best delay for use with distortion on solos not in an effects loop but before the Amp?
Excellent question, which I should have asked too, as I don't use my effects loop..my board goes sraight to input.

I am using a Digitech Digidelay which works better than analog delays I have tried in that configuration, but the DD-20 might be better. I have seen the Fuchs Echo Jr. recommended for this application.
i use the tap-a-delay for this wonderdog... it's actually pretty nice... i throw my dirt and od before my VPjr and then my delay and verb after...
i'll hit a lead line pretty heavy and then slam my vpjr off and the trails i get are pretty great...

DD20 is great in front of an amp. The buffer is pretty good (all Boss effects are buffered, whether or not the effect is on). In that case I'd mostly use the analog/tape modes.
